Samsung Galaxy S24 series is now official and the India pricing and offer details have released as well. The company has usually focused on photography excellence when announcing new flagships, but this year it talked about artificial intelligence (AI) at length. It announced a full suite of AI features called Galaxy AI and as we mentioned in our Galaxy S24 Ultra first impressions, this is the ‘first AI phone’. While all of this is exciting news for Galaxy fans, one aspect will likely leave them disappointed. Samsung could charge for some of the Galaxy AI features in the future. Here’s what we know so far.

Samsung Galaxy AI Features: Free for Now, May Not Be Later

Samsung’s product pages for the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24 Plus, and Galaxy S24 Ultra are packed with information highlighting what’s new with the devices. However, buried deep down in the footnote, there is a piece of information which indicates that Samsung only plans to keep some AI features free till 2025.

This particular footnote reads,

“Galaxy AI features will be provided for free until the end of 2025 on supported Samsung Galaxy devices. Different terms may apply for AI features provided by third parties.”

Yes, you read that right. Samsung is planning to offer Galaxy AI features for free only until 2025. It means two years later, one could be staring at a pop-up on the Galaxy S24 asking them to pay to keep using a Galaxy AI feature. It is currently unknown which Galaxy AI features will be placed behind the paywall.

Samsung has not revealed Galaxy AI pricing details either. It is important to note that even though Samsung is currently considering charging for certain AI features, it may decide not to do so when the time comes. It could scrap the idea eventually or extend the free usage period, though none of this is confirmed at the moment.

Galaxy AI currently introduces a bunch of AI features. These include the likes of Circle to Search, Live Translate for calls, Note Assist, Photo Assist, Transcript Assist, and Interpreter among others. Some of these work with the on-device AI model Gemini Nano and others rely on cloud-based AI powers. Samsung would likely charge to keep using cloud-based AI features given these are more resource heavy.
