iPad Air 2024 vs iPad Air 2022: Design
The 2022 iPad Air has a flat-edge design and comes in Space Gray, Starlight, Pink, Purple, and Blue colours. It comes in a single 10.9-inch screen option.
The 2024 iPad Air portfolio also sports a flat-edge design that includes 11-inch and 13-inch variants. The 11-inch variant weighs around 460 grams, just like its predecessor. But the newer 13-inch variant weighs a bit extra at about 580 grams. The newer iPad Air includes New Blue & Purple, Space Gray, and Starlight colour options.
The biggest difference between the 2022 and the 2024 iPad Air models is the front camera. Apple has now shifted its FaceTime camera from the top bezel to the landscape side.Apart from that, you will not notice any major design differences.

The iPad Air 2022 gets a slightly smaller 10.9-inch Liquid Retina True Tone with a screen resolution of 2360×1640 pixels and Touch ID support.
The 2024 model has the same LED display as its predecessor. The 11-inch iPad Air 2024 packs 2360 x 1640 pixels, just like the iPad Air 2022. But the newer 13-inch iPad Air packs a little extra 2732 x 2048 pixels. It also supports Touch ID.
Apple has not made any significant changes to the display on the newer iPad Air. This means that if you want to watch HDR content on your iPad, you will have to pick its bigger sibling, the iPad Pro, as none of the iPad Airs supports HDR content
iPad Air 2024 vs iPad Air 2022: Performance
The older iPad Air 2022 comes with the M1 chip and offers a 3.2GHz CPU clock speed. It also has a Video decode engine and an Image signal processor (ISP).
The new iPad Air has the M2 chip, which has a 3.49GHz CPU clock speed. It is said to be 50% faster than the previous iPad Air 5th Gen. The latest one comes with a Higher-bandwidth video decode engine and a “New” ISP.
The latest iPad Air 2024 has received a big performance boost, thanks to the inclusion of the M2 SoC. The company has also made some changes to its Neural Engine and now the latest iPad Air 2024 comes with a 40% faster Neural Engine than its predecessor.

The iPad Air 2022 has a 12MP rear and a 12MP front camera.
This is the same for the 2024 iPad Air model.
However, the biggest change between the iPad Air M1 and M2 is the placement of the front camera. The newer iPad Air houses the camera side of the tablet. It also comes with the Center Stage support, which means the camera can automatically crop the frame around you and follow you around the room.
As for the audio, both models have almost identical stereo speakers. However, Apple has claimed that the 13-inch iPad Air can offer 2x the bass as the smaller 11-inch M2 iPad Air.
iPad Air 2024 vs iPad Air 2022: Accessories
Along with the latest iPad Air, the company has also unveiled several new accessories, such as the new Apple Pencil Pro and Smart Folio. These are compatible with the latest 11-inch and 13-inch iPad Airs. It also supports the Magic Keyboard.
The 2022 iPad Air gets the Smart Folio and the Magic Keyboard. However, it will not support the new Apple Pencil Pro and just the Apple Pencil (2nd Gen).
If you already own an iPad Air 2022 and are planning to upgrade to the latest one, it would not be the best idea. Unless you want a bigger screen, that front camera on the side of the new Apple Pencil Pro support matters a lot to you.
However, if you are thinking about getting a new iPad Air, the 2024 variant makes a lot more sense. It comes with additional storage options and a more powerful M2 chipset. The front camera is better positioned and most importantly, you can opt for a bigger display.
