Bethesda has shared details about the much-awaited Starfield May 2024 update. It is set to be the biggest update yet for the game since its release last year. It is loaded with new features and performance improvements. The biggest changes include 60fps support on Xbox, better maps, new difficulty settings, and customizations. The update will be released on May 15. Here is everything you should know.

Starfield May 2024 Update: What’s New

60fps Gameplay on Xbox Series X

Starfield players on the Xbox Series X can enjoy the game at 60fps. On VRR displays, they can choose from 30fps, 40fps, 60fps, or an Uncapped frame rate. To enjoy these settings, the team recommends a VRR (variable refresh rate) display running at 120Hz. Players may experience screen tearing while playing the game at 60fps on a non-VRR display.

Gamers can further prioritise between Visuals and Performance while playing Starfield. Performance setting is recommended when playing at 60fps or higher.

  • Visuals: It keeps the highest resolution while maintaining full detail for special effects, lighting, and crowds.
  • Performance: It lowers internal resolution and detail for special effects, lighting, and crowds.

Updated and Better Starfield Maps

Starfield players have long asked for more detailed surface maps. The team has finally responded to the feedback and improved the maps. It has replaced surface dots with terrain markings, which will help players see where they are and what is around them on the map.

Gameplay Tweaks and New Starfield Difficulty

Bethesda has tweaked a few Starfield gameplay options that players will likely appreciate. The game will now let players increase vendor credits and carry capacity. They can also access ship cargo from anywhere via player inventory.

Starfield now has Extreme difficulty, which takes the challenge to another level beyond the Very Hard difficulty.

Starfield Ship Customizations

Starfield ship customization options have been expanded. Players now have more ways to customize the look and interiors of their ships. Bethesda says the new customization system is similar to the outpost decoration system. Those who want to customize the ship from scratch can opt for empty hub modules.

Starfield players will be able to change their appearance and traits in the New Game Plus mode once they have entered Unity. As mentioned above, the major Starfield update will be released on May 16. It will be available for the Xbox Series X, S, and PCs.
