Advantages of Airtel Family Plan

Using a family plan offers several advantages compared to having separate connections for each family member. The biggest benefit is that you have to manage only a single connection instead of tracing the recharge cycles of each family member. Here are some pros of using the Airtel family plan:

  • Equal Data Limits: A family plan allocates same data limits to all add-on members. This way, no member is left behind with restricted data limits.
  • Easy usage tracking: The primary SIM holder can easily track the calling and data usage of each add-on members. This makes it easier for the primary SIM holder to select an appropriate plan for their family.
  • OTT benefits: Airtel’s family postpaid plans include bundled OTT subscriptions to Amazon Prime, Disney+Hotstar, and Airtel Xstream Play by default. This way, using a single plan the entire family gets access to telecom services and OTT platforms.

How to Add a Family Member in Postpaid Plan

You can add a family member to your postpaid plan using two methods, online and offline. The first method is by using the Airtel Thanks app.

Step 1: Open the Airtel Thanks app and navigate to the services tab.

Step 2: Open the Postpaid section, and select the Postpaid Family option.

Step 3: Choose the Add Member option. Now select the contact that you wish you invite to your postpaid family plan.

Step 4: Once the invitation is sent, the receiver will get an SMS to join your family plan.

If you are not comfortable with this process, you can also visit any nearest Airtel store to get a new member added to your family plan.

Is it worth getting Family plan instead of individual plans?

From a price perspective, it is cheaper to get individual prepaid plans for your family members and buy OTT subscriptions separately, instead of getting a family plan with OTT benefits. The only advantage of family postpaid plans over individual prepaid plans is the comfort of paying and managing a single connection for your entire family.

If you want the best value for your money, then you should avoid getting a family plan. Also, prepaid plans are always comparatively cheaper than postpaid plans.

Postpaid also carries the risk of paying for additional data if you exhaust your plan data limit. Airtel charges you 2 paise/MB which translates to Rs 20.48/GB for using data beyond your plan limits. There’s no such risk in prepaid plans.
