Qualcomm has announced the Snapdragon Sound Elite Gen 2 Platform, a new platform designed to bring on-device AI, advanced audio technologies and low-power connectivity to the next generation of intelligent audio wearables. Qualcomm describes it as its first platform purpose-built to combine premium audio and voice technologies with the intelligence and connectivity required for agent-powered experiences.
Snapdragon Sound Elite Gen 2 Specifications And Features
The Snapdragon Sound Elite Gen 2 delivers up to 2x greater AI capability compared with the Snapdragon S7 Gen 1 Sound Platform, allowing multiple intelligent experiences to operate simultaneously. Qualcomm says the platform can enable always-available Personal AI experiences, including on camera-equipped wearable devices that can use their surroundings as contextual input. The platform also offers up to 40% lower power consumption and a footprint that is up to 30% smaller than the Snapdragon S7 Gen 1. Qualcomm's figures are based on its own testing and simulations under specific conditions, with actual results varying depending on implementation and usage.
Qualcomm has integrated micro-power Wi-Fi 6E into the platform to enable direct-to-cloud connectivity. This allows compatible audio wearables to connect to AI assistants, services and content while giving developers the ability to expand their capabilities through connected applications and services.
Qualcomm is positioning the platform around more natural interactions with AI, including real-time translation, contextual assistance, personalised hearing and multimodal experiences that combine audio, vision and AI. The new platform combines Qualcomm's premium audio technologies with AI-enhanced audio and voice capabilities. It supports 5th Generation Qualcomm ANC, Qualcomm cVc technology and advanced multi-microphone architectures designed to improve noise cancellation, speech capture and voice clarity.
Qualcomm has also introduced the Snapdragon Audio Sense Solution, which combines microphones and algorithms to help compatible devices better detect voices and understand sounds around the wearer. The company says this can enable clearer communication and more responsive interactions with AI assistants. Despite its focus on AI, the platform continues to target premium audio experiences. It supports Qualcomm aptX Lossless for high-quality wireless audio and Qualcomm XPAN, which extends connectivity beyond traditional Bluetooth range to enable more seamless audio experiences across devices. The platform is designed to support a broader range of wearable form factors, including earbuds, headphones, open-ear and hybrid audio devices, camera-enabled earbuds and audio glasses. Qualcomm will also provide reference designs to help manufacturers develop and commercialise next-generation Personal AI devices.
At Snapdragon Summit 2026, Cleer showcased an early concept based on a Snapdragon Sound Platform that combines audio, vision and AI. The concept demonstrates Qualcomm's broader vision for wearables that can understand the user's surroundings rather than functioning only as conventional audio devices.
