Microsoft has launched the Surface Laptop Ultra as a high-performance Windows laptop for creators, professionals and AI workloads. The new Surface machine combines a slim design with a 15-inch mini-LED display, an NVIDIA RTX Spark GPU, up to 128GB of unified memory and a new thermal system designed for sustained workloads.
Surface Laptop Ultra Specifications And Features
The Surface Laptop Ultra features a 15-inch mini-LED PixelSense Ultra touchscreen with a 3:2 aspect ratio, 262ppi pixel density and up to 2,000 nits of peak HDR brightness. The display is designed for professional workflows where colour accuracy and exposure are important.
Despite its performance-focused hardware, the laptop is less than 18mm thick and weighs under 2kg. It is available in Platinum and a new Nightfall finish. The Surface Laptop Ultra is powered by an NVIDIA RTX Spark GPU, bringing dedicated graphics and local AI processing to the Surface lineup.
Microsoft says the platform is designed to combine local AI agents, content creation and gaming. With up to 128GB of unified memory, the laptop can handle larger AI models and datasets directly on the device, potentially reducing latency and reliance on cloud processing.
Compatible applications can also use the GPU for AI-powered workloads such as noise reduction, intelligent masking, video upscaling and AI-assisted code completion.
Microsoft has developed a new thermal system for the Surface Laptop Ultra to support sustained high-performance workloads. The company claims the system offers up to 2.5 times the thermal capacity of the Surface Laptop 15-inch (7th Edition).
The laptop is also designed to maintain performance while running on battery power, with Microsoft promising all-day battery life. The Surface Laptop Ultra features a precision haptic touchpad that is over 30% larger, giving creators more space for detailed cursor control and creative workflows.
Connectivity includes USB-C, USB-A, HDMI, a headphone jack and a full-size SD card reader, reducing the need for dongles when connecting displays, accessories or external storage.
Microsoft is also focusing on long-term usability. The Surface Laptop Ultra has a user-serviceable and replaceable SSD, while internal wayfinding is designed to simplify repairs.
The company says published repair guides and replacement parts will be available, allowing the laptop to remain in service for longer. The Surface Laptop Ultra is designed to support sensitive workloads directly on the device. It also features hardware-rooted security for credentials, keys and firmware and Windows Hello provides facial recognition for password-free authentication.
Surface Laptop Ultra Price and Availability
The Microsoft Surface Laptop Ultra starts at $2,599, which is approximately Rs 2.3 lakh when directly converted, before taxes and other India-specific costs. The laptop is positioned as a premium machine for creators, professionals and users looking for local AI and GPU performance in a portable Surface design. Microsoft has not yet confirmed an India launch date or official Indian pricing for the Surface Laptop Ultra.
The inclusion of a full-size SD card reader, HDMI and a replaceable SSD also makes the Ultra more appealing to professional users who need a machine that can handle demanding workflows without compromising on portability.
