OPPO has announced the July ColorOS 16 Monthly Update, introducing a collection of new features aimed at making its smartphones more personal, responsive and easier to use. Instead of delivering sweeping interface changes, the latest release builds on ColorOS 16 with enhancements across fingerprint customization, camera tools, contact management and system performance, continuing the company’s strategy of rolling out incremental improvements through monthly software updates.
The update is designed to improve the everyday smartphone experience by refining features that users interact with regularly. From unlocking the device to taking photos and switching between apps, OPPO says the latest additions are intended to make common tasks feel more intuitive while offering greater opportunities for personalization.
Unlike major Android version upgrades that typically introduce large-scale changes once a year, OPPO’s monthly updates focus on practical refinements that can be rolled out more frequently. The July release follows that approach by adding several quality-of-life improvements without changing the overall ColorOS experience.
New customization features and camera tools headline the update
One of the biggest additions in the July update is custom fingerprint unlock animations. Users can now choose from different fingerprint icon styles and unlock animations, allowing them to mix and match visual effects for a more personalized lock screen experience. Since unlocking a phone is one of the most frequently performed actions during the day, OPPO is giving users more control over how that interaction looks and feels.
Photography is also receiving new creative tools. The native Camera app now includes two additional filters called Primrose and Bold B&W. Primrose is designed to produce warmer, softer-looking portraits, while Bold B&W emphasizes contrast for dramatic monochrome photography. Because the filters are built directly into the camera app, users can apply them while shooting instead of editing images later in a separate application.
Another notable addition is Contact Poster Preview. The feature allows users to preview and customize contact posters before assigning them to contacts, making it easier to adjust the final appearance before it is used during incoming and outgoing calls. The change gives users greater control over how they appear when communicating with friends and family.
Performance improvements arrive alongside new security features
Beyond customization, OPPO is also introducing several under-the-hood improvements focused on performance and reliability.
The company says ColorOS 16 now delivers smoother transition animations within the Recent Tasks interface, helping multitasking feel more fluid when switching between applications. While the visual changes may be subtle, they are intended to improve overall responsiveness during daily use.
The update also expands Face Unlock by adding support for a backup facial profile. This enables users to register an additional face, helping improve unlocking reliability across different situations, including changes in appearance such as wearing glasses or makeup.
In addition to these headline features, OPPO says the July update includes broader system refinements and performance optimizations designed to improve stability and responsiveness throughout the operating system.
The ColorOS 16 July update will be released in phases throughout the month for eligible devices, including the Find X9 series, Reno 15 series and Reno 14 series. As with previous staged rollouts, availability may vary depending on the smartphone model and region, with users receiving the update gradually over time.
