Samsung has officially announced the One UI 8.5 beta program

Samsung just kicked off the next phase of its software evolution with the One UI 8.5 beta. It's focused on three big things: helping you create content faster, making your devices talk to each other better, and locking down your security.

The beta is open right now for Galaxy S25 owners in select regions, including India, the US, UK, Germany, Korea, and Poland.

Smarter Content Tools and Seamless Sharing Take Centre Stage

Samsung is clearly trying to make life easier for creators here. The headline feature is an upgrade to Photo Assist. Instead of having to save every little change or start over if you mess up, you can now edit continuously. It keeps a history of your edits, so you can tweak, rework, or undo steps whenever you want. It's a lot like the non-destructive editing pros use, but built right into your gallery.

Quick Share – Samsung's answer to AirDrop – is getting smarter, too. It can now recognise faces in your photos and suggest sending them directly to the right people. It's a small tweak, but it removes that extra step of searching for a contact, making sharing feel much more predictive and natural.

Better Connectivity, Stronger Protection, and a More Unified Galaxy Ecosystem

One UI 8.5 is also bringing some cool ecosystem tricks.

First up is Audio Broadcast using Auracast. This lets you broadcast your music or even your voice to other devices with LE Audio support nearby. Samsung thinks this will be great for things like tour groups or classrooms, effectively turning your phone into a local PA system.

Then there is Storage Share. This essentially turns the My Files app into a universal file browser for your entire Samsung life. You can access files stored on your Galaxy Tablet, PC, or even your TV directly from your phone. It cuts out the hassle of emailing files to yourself to move them between screens.

On the security front, there is a new Theft Protection suite. The standout here is the Failed Authentication Lock, which automatically freezes your phone if it detects repeated incorrect unlock attempts – a solid defence if your device gets stolen.

Where This Fits in Samsung's Bigger Strategy – And If You Should Join the Beta

This update proves Samsung is moving past just making things look pretty. One UI 8.5 is about utility – connecting your devices and keeping them safe.

If you have a Galaxy S25 and you enjoy testing out new tech (and don’t mind the occasional bug), you can sign up via the Samsung Members app today. The features like the new Photo Assist and Storage Share seem genuinely useful. But if you need your phone to be perfectly stable, you might want to wait for the official global rollout coming early next year.
