Best camera phones under 30000

George Kurien

The under ₹30,000 segment is a fairly crowded space, with a lot of interesting camera phones. Among some of the choices you’re spoilt with in this segment are a few of last year’s flagship camera mobiles, owing to their lowered prices. They may not be the very latest smartphones, but are more than capable in their own right. They’re also relevant because a lot of the flagship smartphones continue to receive updates even a couple of years after their launch. Dual-camera mobiles feature prominently in this list as well.

Most impressive all-round imaging performance
The Galaxy S7’s camera was one of the best around at the time of launch. While Samsung has moved on and launched other flagship smartphones, the Galaxy S7 is still among the very best out there, and is now also more affordable than ever. The Galaxy S7 boasts of amazingly accurate and fast autofocus, thanks to what Samsung calls Dual Pixels. With the Galaxy S7’s camera, the company may have dropped the megapixel count from 16-megapixels to 12-megapixels when compared to its predecessor, but the S7’s camera uses larger pixels that also help with locking focus onto your subject a lot faster.

Dual-camera setup with wide and telephoto lenses
The OnePlus 5 features a dual-camera arrangement at the rear, with one wide-angle and one telephoto lens. We like this alternative take on the dual-camera setup, and although its implementation may not be flawless, it is still a dual-camera to reckon with. While the phone’s wide-angle rear camera has a 16-megapixel sensor with 1.12µm pixels and uses a F1.7 lens, the rear telephoto camera has a 20-megapixel sensor with 1.0µm pixels and makes use of a F2.6 lens. It has a dual-LED flash to aid with low-light situations. The camera allows for 4K video at 30fps as well. You can also shoot pictures in RAW and edit and them later.

Dual-cameras with standard and wide-angle lenses
The LG G5, launched before the V20 and the G6, features dual rear facing cameras with standard and wide-angle lenses just as in the V20, with 16 and 8-megapixel sensors respectively. The G5 lets you record 4K video at 30fps, and features OIS in its main 16-megapixel camera. While its implementation of dual-cameras have been questioned by reviewers, especially due to the use of sensors varying in resolution in its wide-angle and standard cameras, the phone yields impressive image quality for the most part, with well-balanced exposures. The wide-angle camera, although of a lower resolution, lends itself well to landscape, architecture and street photography.

Great camera with the goodness of OIS
The OnePlus 5’s predecessor makes it to our list for being an amazing camera in itself. Featuring Optical Image Stabilisation, its primary camera shoots 16-megapixel images, and 4K video at 30fps. Its camera also allows for 120fps video at 720p resolution. The OnePlus 3T also features RAW image support, another must have today if you intend to edit your photos without any compromises in image quality.

Impressive photo and video quality
Apple’s smartphones have been renowned for their camera quality for a while now. The company has, in fact, been making huge strides in the camera department with their latest offerings - the iPhone 8, the iPhone 8 Plus, and the iPhone X. Presently though, these phones are prohibitively expensive. The 6S, launched back in late-2015, however, is still relevant today thanks to its 12-megapixel primary sensor which lets you record 4K video at 30fps, and also yields excellent image quality, especially in low-light.

Great flagship mobile with dual cameras
Huawei’s current flagship, the Honor 8 Pro sports a dual-camera setup at the rear. While it isn’t Leica branded, like the Huawei P9, the Honor 8 Pro’s camera module is almost identical in all other aspects. The phone’s primary camera module features a 12-megapixel RGB sensor and a 12-megapixel monochrome sensor with F2.2 aperture lenses in its dual-camera setup. Aside from its impressive monochrome mode, the phone combines the results from the two sensors with regular photos as well, for a sharp and detailed output.

Impressive photo-quality and other premium features are not restricted to flagship smartphones alone today, and are available in the mid-range segment as well. Several of the phones in our list of camera mobiles under ₹30,000 feature the very latest in smartphone camera technology. While this list also includes last year’s premium flagship phones, at least a few of the phones on this list are mid-range phones that hit the market only this year, and boast of premium features that have trickled down from flagship smartphones into the mid-range segment.
