Official Trailer and Plot
Everybody in this country knows the story of Adipurush. The legendary prince of Ayodhya in the Kosala kingdom is Raghava (Prabhas). At the urging of Raghava’s stepmother Kaikeyi, Raghava’s father King Dasharatha sends him into a 14-year exile to the wilderness.
Along with his brother Sesh (Sunny Singh) and wife Janaki (Kriti Sanon), Raghava traverses Indian woods. However, one day Lankesh (Saif Ali Khan), the king of Lanka, kidnaps Janaki and takes her away. This led to a war that ended with Lankesh’s death and Raghava’s ultimate return to Ayodhya, where Raghava was crowned as the king amid joy and rejoicing.
The actors who appear in the film include Prabhas, Saif Ali Khan, Kriti Sanon, Sunny Singh, Devdatta Nage, Vatsal Sheth, Sonal Chauhan, Siddhant Karnick, Tejaswini Pandit, Trupti Toradmal, and Krishna Kotian. The film’s director is Om Raut.
Reception
Adipurush was released in theatres on June 16 and starred Prabhas as Raghava, Kriti Sanon as Janaki, and Saif Ali Khan as Lankesh. Based on the Sanskrit epic Ramayana and directed by Om Raut, the movie received harsh criticism for its dreadful special effects, weak character development, and trite language.
The movie fared poorly at the box office. The controversy about its dialogues led to its downfall at the box office. Made on a whopping budget of 600 crores, the movie couldn’t recover its money, despite its digital rights being sold in huge amounts. Even IMDb has rated the movie a 3.2 on a scale of 10.
