When Xiaomi was named the Air Purifier Brand of the Year Under Rs 20,000 at the MySmartPrice Best of Tech Awards 2025, the company told us that it was preparing to refresh its air purifier portfolio in India. That promised expansion finally has a date.
Xiaomi has confirmed that the Mijia Air Purifier 6 and Mijia Air Purifier 4 Compact will be unveiled in India on August 25. These will be the first products to arrive after the company formally introduced its Mijia home and lifestyle sub-brand in the country earlier this month.
The company has only announced the product names and launch date so far. India-specific specifications, prices and sale details will be revealed at the launch. Models bearing the same names are already available in China and other global markets, but it remains to be seen whether Xiaomi will bring the same configurations to India.
Mijia Air Purifier 6: What the Overseas Model Offers
The Mijia Air Purifier 6 sold in overseas markets is the more powerful of the two models. According to Xiaomi’s global product listing, it has a tested particle Clean Air Delivery Rate, or CADR, of 443 cubic metres per hour and an effective coverage area of 29 to 50 square metres.
The overseas model uses five sensors to monitor PM1, PM2.5, larger dust particles, temperature and humidity. PM1 monitoring could be a particularly relevant addition for Indian cities, since most mainstream air purifiers restrict their displays to PM2.5 readings.
Its five-layer purification system includes a primary filter, Xiaomi’s high-efficiency filter, activated carbon, UVC sterilisation and negative-ion generation. Xiaomi claims that the high-efficiency layer can remove 99.98 per cent of particles measuring 0.3 microns. The activated-carbon layer is designed to address odours, formaldehyde and other volatile organic compounds.
A colour LCD displays real-time air-quality information. The purifier can also be connected to the Xiaomi Home app for remote operation, scheduling, mode selection and filter-life monitoring. Alexa and Google Assistant voice controls are supported on the overseas version.
Xiaomi recommends replacing its filter every six to 12 months, depending on usage and air quality. The overseas model also has a sleep mode rated at 32dB.
These specifications provide an indication of where the Air Purifier 6 could sit in Xiaomi’s India portfolio. However, the company has not confirmed whether the India-bound model will retain the same sensors, filtration system, CADR or smart features.
Mijia Air Purifier 4 Compact: What We Can Expect
The Mijia Air Purifier 4 Compact available in other markets is designed for smaller spaces. Its cylindrical body can be used as a floor-standing or tabletop purifier, making it suitable for bedrooms, studies, children’s rooms and smaller home offices.
The overseas model offers a particle CADR of 230 cubic metres per hour and an effective coverage range of 16 to 27 square metres. Its three-in-one filtration system is claimed to capture 99.97 per cent of particles measuring 0.3 microns, including dust, pollen, smoke and pet dander.
A built-in particulate matter sensor monitors air quality and allows the purifier to adjust its fan speed automatically. Other features include a four-colour air-quality indicator, Xiaomi Home app connectivity, scheduling, child lock and remote controls.
The model sold globally is rated for noise levels as low as 20dB in sleep mode and consumes up to 27W at maximum output. It also supports Alexa and Google Assistant.
Once again, these are specifications of the model available outside India. Xiaomi may change the filtration configuration, sensors, smart features or other specifications for the Indian market. The complete details will only be known on August 25.
Xiaomi Was an Early Mover in India’s Air Purifier Market
Xiaomi entered India’s air purifier category in 2016 with the Mi Air Purifier 2, priced at Rs 9,999. It was also the company’s first connected home product in India and brought Wi-Fi connectivity, app controls and air-quality monitoring to a relatively accessible price point.
The company’s existing India range includes the Xiaomi Smart Air Purifier 4 and Smart Air Purifier 4 Lite. The former offers a CADR of up to 400 cubic metres per hour, while the Lite model is rated at up to 360 cubic metres per hour.
Xiaomi’s mix of connected features, straightforward design and aggressive pricing helped it build a strong position in the category. That value proposition also contributed to the company being named the Air Purifier Brand of the Year Under Rs 20,000 at the MSP Best of Tech Awards 2025.
Prices of the two upcoming Mijia models will be announced at launch. Xiaomi has historically priced its air purifiers competitively in India, and we expect the company to follow a similarly aggressive approach with the new range. However, there is no official indication of their prices yet.
Why the Timing Matters for Indian Buyers
Air pollution remains a recurring concern across several Indian cities, but demand for air purifiers still rises sharply around Diwali and the beginning of winter. Delhi-NCR retailers reported a 60 to 70 per cent increase in purifier sales as air quality deteriorated in October 2025. By November, several retailers had run out of models from multiple brands, while online stocks and replacement-filter availability were also under pressure.
An August launch gives Xiaomi time to establish its new portfolio, retail inventory and replacement-filter supply before the peak pollution period. More companies entering the category, along with existing brands expanding their ranges, should also give Indian buyers more options across room sizes and budgets.
The real evaluation will extend beyond headline filtration claims. CADR relative to room size, purification speed, sensor accuracy, noise, replacement-filter pricing and long-term filter availability will determine whether the new models are practical choices for Indian homes.
We hope the growing competition and earlier inventory planning mean buyers do not face the shortages seen last winter. The Mijia launches are an encouraging development, and we are looking forward to testing both air purifiers in the MySmartPrice Lab once they become available. Our testing will cover purification performance, sensor response, operating noise, power consumption, smart controls and overall ease of use.
