Apple iOS 18 is Coming Soon: Here Are The 5 Features We Want To See

JOIN US

We are just two months away from Apple’s next big event, WWDC 2024, where the company is expected to unveil its much-anticipated iOS 18. The WWDC 2024 keynote opens on June 10 this year and will continue until June 14. And yes, software will be a key focus area at this event.

While iOS is known for its easy-to-use and user-friendly interface, we believe there’s still room for improvement, and adding a few more features could enhance the iPhone experience even further. So, before the official iOS 18 announcement, here is our wish list of features we want to see in the next big iOS update. Let’s get into it:

Apple iOS 18 Wishlist for 2024: Enhanced AI Photo Editing

AI is the buzzword of 2024, and Apple is expected to incorporate more generative AI experiences in iOS 18. However, Apple is far behind companies such as Google and Samsung, which have taken the lead in incorporating several generative AI features on their phones.

And yes, both are now emphasising Gen-AI-based photo editing on their devices today. For example, the ‘Magic Eraser’ or ‘Best Take’ feature on the latest Pixel 8 series devices is well-known. Samsung has introduced ‘Galaxy AI’, which also supports AI-based photo editing on the Galaxy S24 series and plans to expand these features to older flagship phones.

Unfortunately, iPhones don’t have such cool AI-based photo editing capabilities natively. So, it would be great to see Apple introduce AI magic in photo editing. According to leaks and rumours, Apple is expected to introduce more generative AI features in iOS 18. We will have to wait and see whether these will also extend to photo editing. Hopefully, iOS 18 will let users natively remove an object from a photo.

Apple iOS 18 Wishlist for 2024: Improved Notifications

Let’s face it: iPhone notifications are a cluttered mess. Scrolling through a jumble of alerts to find that important email or message feels like finding a needle in a haystack. This unorganised approach feels overwhelming, especially if you are someone from the Android side.

Apple’s iOS 18 needs a notification overhaul prioritising clarity and user control. We want features like notification channels and smarter grouping to tame the chaos and make iPhone notifications useful.

Apple iOS 18 Wishlist for 2024: Customisable Icon Placement

Apple is restrictive when it comes to customisation. But it’s 2024, and the Cupertino-based tech giant still doesn’t allow us to place icons wherever we want them on the home screen. While some appreciate the clean aesthetic of the iPhone’s regular grid layout, many users crave the freedom to customise their home screens further. Hopefully, iOS 18 will give us this freedom.

Apple iOS 18 Wishlist for 2024: Split Screen Support for Large iPhones

This feature has been on Android devices for ages, but Apple hasn’t included it. We understand that earlier iPhones used to be relatively compact devices, so adding a split-screen capability didn’t make sense. But today’s iPhone Plus and Pro Max models are quite big in terms of sizing and offer ample real estate to support split-screen functionality.

Imagine referencing notes while composing an email, following a recipe while checking grocery lists, or watching a YouTube video while chatting with your friend about it. Split-screen functionality on the larger iPhones in iOS 18 would be a game-changer, unlocking a new level of multitasking.

Apple iOS 18 Wishlist for 2024: Enhanced Volume Controls

The current volume controls on the iPhone leave a lot to be desired. Users can adjust the ringer and alert sounds independently within Settings. But it gets confusing when using the physical buttons. Switching between media, ringer, and alert volumes is cumbersome on iPhones.

To improve this, iOS 18 could introduce a more granular volume control system. Imagine a group of sliders in the Control Centre offering finer adjustments, similar to Android’s volume panel. It would be a welcome improvement if Apple could give us separate sliders for the ringer, alerts, media, and system sounds.

So that’s our wishlist for iOS 18. Let us know in the comments what you think of this and what you want to see in the next iOS version.
