  • The Nintendo Switch 2 is rumoured to boast 12GB RAM, 256GB storage, and an 8-inch 120Hz display.
  • New rumours suggest DLSS might close the performance gap between Switch 2 and other consoles.

After years of speculations, Nintendo announced the next iteration of its Nintendo Switch, otherwise known as Switch 2 will be launched this fiscal year (by March 2025). Recent reports on the Nintendo Switch 2 corroborate earlier leaks, potentially shedding light on the console’s specifications. Check more details.

Nintendo Switch 2 Console Specs Leaked

The first leak is based on data analysis of shipments between Nintendo and partners, a user on the Nintendo forum Famiboards claims that the Switch 2 will have 12GB of RAM, 2x 6GB LPDDR5X modules capable of 7,500MT/s transfer speed, and 256GB of UFS 3.1 internal storage.Nintendo, Nintendo Switch 2

While this is less storage compared to other consoles, it’s a huge improvement from Switch OLED’s 64GB. Another forum member, ‘mjayer,’ has suggested the device has an 8-inch display with an expectable refresh rate of up to 120 Hz.

While these specs are interesting, a proper comparison to existing consoles requires additional details about the Switch 2’s architecture and performance. However, Twitter users Stealth40k and Neoxon619, citing details on Famiboards claimed that the Switch 2’s power varies depending on the mode. In handheld mode, it might match a PS4 (without DLSS), while docked it could approach an Xbox Series S (again, without DLSS).

Previously, it was reported that the Switch 2 might use DLSS 3.5 and AI Ray Reconstruction to achieve ray tracing that could rival PS5/Xbox Series X performance (per Nate the Hate).

According to Neoxon691, Switch 2 could have inferior RAM specs than the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles but it still has more RAM than the Xbox Series S, which has 10 GB. An important detail missing is the Switch 2’s processor speed, which is currently unknown. While PS5 and Xbox Series X boast faster GDDR6 memory with much higher bandwidth, the Switch 2’s RAM type (LPDDR5) might be optimized for efficiency.

Other leaks include that the console will feature backward compatibility, built-in microphones, and new Joy-Con controllers, among others.

Nintendo Switch 2 Expected Release Window

A Brazilian streamer, tvPH, suggests a March 2025 release for the Nintendo Switch 2, with official info coming this fall (September-December).

It is important to note that these all are leaks and should be taken with a grain of salt until Nintendo confirms it. However, Switch 2 will face stiffer competition from devices like Valve’s Steam Deck and offerings from Lenovo and ROG Ally and Ally 2 (Jun 2). It will need to stand out in a more crowded market than when the original Switch launched.
