Google Arts & Culture launches the largest-ever online exhibition on Hindi Cinema in a one-of-its-kind global initiative to digitise over 100 years of history of the Hindi film industry. The exhibition —supported by 21 Indian and Global partner institutions— was announced by the Minister of Information and Broadcasting at the International Film Festival of India. Available free of charge to film enthusiasts and the general public on Google Arts & Culture, the exhibit uses Google’s Augmented Reality and Street View to take enthusiasts on a deep dive into the century-long rich history of the Hindi Film Industry. Google Launches Largest-Ever Online Exhibition on Hindi Cinema

Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Anurag Singh Thakur unveiled Google’s one-of-its-kind initiative to digitise the century-long history of the Hindi Film Industry at the International Film Festival of India 2023’s Film Bazaar. The online exhibit can be accessed by anyone on the Google Arts & Culture platform for free. The largest-ever online Hindi Cinema exhibition uses Augmented Reality and Street View technology of Google to give users an immersive experience of traversing through stories about iconic films and industry legends.

Google Hindi Cinema Exhibition: What’s on Display?

The Google Arts & Culture Hindi Cinema Exhibition has been launched in partnership with 21 institutions from India and across the world. It offers visitors a 3D virtual gallery displaying various homages to Hindi filmmaking and stories about various iconic films and Hindi movie legends. The exhibit comprises 120 expert-curated stories and over 7,000 assets. These include more than 5,000 high-resolution images and 1,500 other assets like videos, posters, and songs from vintage classics like Mughal-E-Azam and Pyasa to blockbusters like Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge and Veer Zaara.

Visitors can also have fun with the Poster Puzzle Party, film trivia, and hang film posters at home with an art projector in AR. There is also a 4 part iconic story commemorating iconic films, characters, music, and filmmaking behind the scenes. Movie buffs will like the story of how Hindi cinema evolved through the decades, the history of Bombay cinema, and post-independence Hindi cinema made for royalty.

There’s also a dedicated section for the Golden Age of Hindi cinema, which looks back on 10 iconic faces and films, the importance of the Golden Age, introduction to icons like V. Shantaram, Yash Chopra, Guru Dutt, etc., and interviews of prominent Hindi film industry personalities like Karan Johar or Shabana Azmi with noted Anupama Chopra. Other sections include women in the spotlight, 10 iconic names to know, legendary cinema halls, an inside look at iconic studios like Bombay Talkies, and more.
