WhatsApp Events Update Lets You Invite People Without WhatsApp and Manage RSVPs in One Place

WhatsApp is updating its Events feature with support for inviting non-users through links, cover photos, a dedicated Events Home, custom reminders, RSVP tracking and plus-one invitations.

WhatsApp is making its Events feature more useful for planning meetups by allowing users to invite people who do not have a WhatsApp account. The updated feature lets organisers create an event, add a cover photo and share an invite link that guests can use to view the event details and RSVP without downloading WhatsApp.

WhatsApp Events Features

Until now, WhatsApp Events were primarily useful when everyone involved was already using the messaging platform. With the latest update, organisers can share an event link with friends and family outside WhatsApp as well.

Guests who do not have a WhatsApp account can open the shared link, view the event details and respond to the invitation without installing the app. This could make the feature more practical for larger gatherings where not everyone uses the same messaging platform. Organisers can also add a cover photo to their events, giving invitations a more personalised look before sharing them with guests.

WhatsApp is also adding a dedicated Events Home, designed as a central place for managing events.

Users can create events, send customised invitations and keep track of RSVPs from the same location. The feature also includes custom reminders to help keep attendees updated and an option for guests to add a plus one.

Users can access a complete list of their events through Settings > Events. This includes both upcoming and past events, covering events they have created as well as those they have been invited to. WhatsApp says privacy remains a key part of the updated Events experience. A user's phone number will not be displayed to guests they do not know.

For guests who do not have a WhatsApp account, the event address will only become visible after they RSVP. This gives organisers a way to share location details while limiting when that information becomes available. WhatsApp also says personal messages and calls continue to remain private and end-to-end encrypted.

WhatsApp Events Update Rolling Out Soon

The updated Events experience is being rolled out to users over the following weeks. The new features are aimed at making WhatsApp a more complete tool for coordinating real-world gatherings, particularly when event attendees include people outside the platform.

With support for external guests, centralised RSVP management, custom reminders and plus-one invitations, WhatsApp is expanding Events beyond the traditional group-chat experience.

WhatsApp is turning Events into something closer to a standalone planning tool rather than just another feature inside group chats. The ability to invite people who do not use WhatsApp is particularly useful because it removes one of the biggest limitations of organising events through a messaging platform. The new Events Home also makes the feature easier to manage, especially for users juggling multiple gatherings and invitations.
