WhatsApp Launches Bill Payments in India With Support for 22,700+ Billers

The new feature lets users manage and pay utility and household bills without leaving the WhatsApp.

WhatsApp has launched its Bill Payments feature in India, allowing users to find, manage and pay everyday household and utility bills directly within the app. Powered by the Bharat Connect (BBPS) network, the feature provides access to 22,722 billers across 30 categories.

WhatsApp Bill Payments Features

The new feature covers several commonly used bill categories, including electricity, gas, water, FASTag, insurance, credit card payments and loan repayments.

Users can access Bill Payments by tapping the ₹ icon at the top of the WhatsApp home screen. They can then view past payments and upcoming bills, manage multiple accounts under a single provider and choose their preferred payment method.

WhatsApp also provides a household bills summary, with previously paid billers appearing on the Payments Home for one-tap access.

WhatsApp allows users to manage multiple accounts under a single biller, including bills for their home, office and family. This brings multiple accounts from the same provider together in one place.

The Payments Home will also automatically surface popular bill categories. Users can tap the "See All" option to browse the full list of supported categories.

To make a payment, users need to open WhatsApp and tap the ₹ icon at the top of the home screen. They can select the bill category and biller, add and confirm their account details, and review the fetched bill amount.

Users can then choose UPI, debit card or credit card as their payment method before confirming the transaction.

WhatsApp Bill Payments Availability

WhatsApp is gradually rolling out Bill Payments to users across India. The feature will be available on Android and iOS over the coming weeks.

WhatsApp’s new Bill Payments feature adds another everyday utility to the app, allowing users to handle household payments without switching between multiple apps. Support for more than 22,700 billers and categories ranging from electricity and water to FASTag, insurance and loan repayments makes the feature particularly useful for users who already rely on WhatsApp for other digital services.
