Samsung Galaxy S20, S20+, S20 Ultra with 120Hz Displays, 5G Support Launched: Price, Specifications

At Samsung’s much-awaited Galaxy Unpacked 2020 event earlier tonight, the company announced the launch of several new products. While we already knew most of the new devices that the company had planned to unveil at the event, it is only now – post the launch event – that we have complete details and specifications about all of them. The most awaited product from this year’s ‘Unpacked’ event was arguably the refreshed lineup of Samsung Galaxy S-series handsets, which consists of three devices — the Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20+, and the Galaxy S20 Ultra. Successors to last year’s S10 series, the three handsets will form the basis of Samsung’s flagship products lineup for 2020 and beyond.

Another key product launch at the event was Samsung’s fresh entry into the realm of foldable smartphones — the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip. A successor to last year’s Galaxy Fold (which did come with its own share of niggles), the Galaxy Z Flip is a much more mature product that seems to have incorporated all the learnings from the Samsung’s first attempt at making a phone with foldable displays. The third announcement made at the event was the announcement of Samsung’s new wireless in-ear earphones — the Samsung Galaxy Buds+. We will talk about the Galaxy Z Flip and the Galaxy Buds+ in separate articles.

First, let us take a closer look at the Samsung Galaxy S20 Series their detailed specifications, and expected prices

Samsung Galaxy S20 Series: Specifications, Features

The Samsung Galaxy S20 – as you might have already guessed – is the entry-point to Samsung’s 2020 flagship series. It comes with almost all the flagship-grade features you would possibly want in a device. The Galaxy S20 gets a 6.2-inch Dynamic AMOLED display with an Infinity-O ‘punch-hole’ at the center to house the front-facing camera. The display has a resolution of 3200 x 1440 pixels and now supports up to 120Hz refresh rate. The display is HDR10+ certified as well. In fact, the other two members of the Galaxy S20 family — the Galaxy S20+ and the Galaxy S20 Ultra – get the same display specifications. The only difference being the S20+ getting a larger 6.7-inch display and the S20 Ultra getting a 6.9-inch panel.

The international, 5G capable version of the Samsung Galaxy S20 comes powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 SoC. This variant ships with 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 128GB of storage. The Indian version, on the other hand, is relatively low on specs and gets by with Samsung’s own Exynos 990 SoC and will feature 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 128GB of storage. The S20 offers a microSD card slot for additional storage. The Indian variant will also get support for dual SIM cards.

The 5G version of the Galaxy S20+ comes in three versions — a 12GB+ 128GB base version, a 12GB+256GB option, and a 12GB+512GB top version. The Indian version of the device, on the other hand, gets the same Exynos 99 SoC and is also low on RAM and storage with the only available option getting 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.

The Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra is also offered in three versions and seems to be the only one that offers a no-compromise experience to Indian users. Both the 5G and LTE versions get identical RAM and storage options. The S20 Ultra is offered in three versions starting with a base 12GB+12GB version, a mid-tier 12GB+256GB version, and a top-end 16GB+512GB version.

The Samsung Galaxy S20 is the smallest of the trio in size and weighs just 163g and packs in a 4,000mAh battery with 25W fast charging support. The S20+ with its 6.5-inch display is larger and weighs 188g and gets a slightly larger 4,500mAh battery with 25W fast charging. The Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra with the 6.9-inch panel weighs in at a hefty 220g and has a massive 5,000mAh battery with 45W fast charging.

Samsung Galaxy S20 Series Camera features

The primary camera gets an f/1.8 lens while the UW camera offers a 120-degree FOV with its f/2.2 lens. Both these cameras support dual pixel AF as well. The third camera on the Galaxy S20 is for telephoto purposes and gets a 64MP sensor and an f/2.0 lens with PDAF. All three cameras support OIS.

The camera specs on the Galaxy S20+ is identical to that of its little brother but gets an additional sensor for depth sensing.

The secondary camera on the device is a 12MP ultra-wide sensor with f/2.2 aperture and 120-degree field-of-view.
