Samsung Semiconductor announced a special type of DRAM that increases bandwidth and latency limits and is significantly more efficient in processing real-time data than Low-Power Double Data Rate (LPDDR). Samsung claims that the new Low Latency Wide IO (LLW) DRAM is more suitable for mobile AI and gaming applications. The new LLW DRAM is expected to make its debut with the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S24 series smartphones.
The teaser shared by the brand in X (formerly Twitter) reveals that LLW DRAM will be placed near the chipset, which increases its efficiency. The teaser confirms that all the chipset, DRAM and LLW DRAM will work simultaneously. The video showcases the working of the LLW DRAM in a smartphone, which is believed to be the upcoming S24 or S24+ smartphone.
Samsung will also debut the LLW DRAM with its upcoming laptops, gaming consoles and other products. A previous report revealed that the upcoming Samsung flagship smartphones will be an AI device. The Galaxy S24 series smartphones are also the first non-Pixel smartphones to debut with Bard AI. Samsung is also tipped to equip its upcoming flagship smartphones with many AI features to take on Pixel 8 series smartphones.
In related news, Ice Universe, a reliable tipster, confirmed that Samsung will launch the vanilla S24 smartphone only in the 8GB RAM variant. The other two smartphones will be available in 8GB RAM and 12GB RAM variants. The 3C certifications have revealed that the devices will support 45W fast wired charging tech.
