  • Reliance Retail plans to expand its Made-In-India consumer electronics and home appliances brand called “Wyzr”.
  • The company plans to sell several products, including Air Conditioners, Refrigerators, and LED bulbs.

We all know how Mukesh Ambani introduced Jio and disrupted the Indian telecom space. It seems like the Indian billionaire has similar plans for consumer electronics and home appliances. According to reports, Reliance is developing a new Made-In-India brand named Wyzr. The company is already selling Air Coolers under the Wyzr brand in the country.

An Economic Times report says Reliance plans to offer other appliances, including refrigerators, washing machines, TVs, air conditioners, and more. Here’s everything about Mukesh Ambani’s latest venture into consumer appliances.

Reliance’s Dream with Wyzr

Foreign players like LG, Samsung, and Sony are some of the popular names in India’s Home Appliances segment. Foreign companies have a major market share, whether it is a TV, washing machine, refrigerator, or air conditioner. India’s IFB and Godrej are some of the notable exceptions to the list. Now, it looks like Mukesh Ambani/Reliance wants to join the lucrative sector with Wyzr.

More importantly, this will be a Made-In-India brand operating under Reliance Retail. According to the Economic Times, the company is already finalising production agreements with local manufacturers like Dixon Technologies and Onida’s parent company, Mirc Electronics, to ensure manufacturing in the country.

Which Products will be Included?

The official Wyzr website is already live. While most products still have the “Coming Soon” badge, the company is already selling Air Coolers. However, Wyzr is said to have a larger portfolio in the works, including Air Conditioners, Washing Machines, Refrigerators, TVs, Small Appliances, and even LED light bulbs.

How will it be Different from the Reliance Reconnect?

For those unaware, Reliance sold all these consumer appliances under the name Reconnect, which launched in 2011. So how will Wyzr be different from that? The Reconnect products were designed and manufactured by third-party partners, and Reliance was only selling those devices. Wyzr is Reliance’s brand; all products will be designed and manufactured in-house.

What About Manufacturing?

As stated, the company is already in advanced talks with contract manufacturers like Dixon Technologies and Mirc Electronics. However, Reliance plans to set up its production unit once the brand gains a reasonable market share.

Reports state that back in 2022, Reliance Industries had acquired 50.1% shares in the Indian entity of the US-based manufacturing solution company Sanmina Corporation to expand the electronics manufacturing segment in India. Sanmina already has a 100-acre campus in Chennai, where it is expected to set up a plant for Wyzr products.

Reliance’s Strategy

Earlier, when Reliance was selling its Reconnect products, they were mainly available through its Reliance Digital stores. However, reports claim the company could take a different approach with Wyzr. It could ensure that the upcoming products will also be available at independent dealers, regional retail chains, and major e-commerce platforms like Amazon and Flipkart to ensure greater reach.

Furthermore, according to a Business Today report, Reliance Retail’s Chief Financial Officer Dinesh Taluja told analysts during Reliance Industries’ fourth-quarter earnings on April 22 that Wyzr products could also be cheaper than those from market leader brands like LG, Samsung, and Whirlpool.
