  • Apple could ditch the ‘iPhone Plus’ variant for a new ‘iPhone Slim’ variant.
  • The upcoming iPhone 17 Pro Max is said to have a “narrowed Dynamic Island”.

The iPhone 16 series is still a few months away from release, but rumours surrounding its successor are already floating around. Analyst Jeff Pu has revealed an investor note sharing details of the 2025 iPhone lineup, and the folks at 9to5Mac shared some details on this.

According to the report, the iPhone 17 lineup will sport a refreshed design, front-facing camera improvements, a smaller Dynamic Island, and more. The report also states that Apple plans to ditch the ‘Plus’ model from next year and will be replaced by the new ‘Slim’ variant.

According to Pu, the upcoming iPhone 17 series will look something like this:

  • iPhone 17: 6.1-inch display
  • iPhone 17 Slim: 6.6-inch display
  • iPhone 17 Pro: 6.3-inch display
  • iPhone 17 Pro Max: 6.9-inch display

Design Changes in the iPhone 17 Series

The report states that Apple will make several changes to the design. The iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Slim and iPhone 17 Pro are said to follow a new aluminium design language that is “more complex.” On the other hand, the bigger iPhone 17 Pro Max will still be made of titanium. Apple introduced the titanium build with the iPhone 15 Pro variants last year, and the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max will continue with the same.

The note adds that the iPhone 17 Pro Max will sport a “narrowed Dynamic Island,” whereas all the other variants will retain the current size. Moreover, Pu also reported that Apple will use a new 24MP sensor on the front of all the iPhone 17 devices. This is a big deal as the iPhone’s front sensor has been due for an upgrade for a long time. Popular Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reported a similar upgrade a few months back.

Apple to Replace ‘Plus’ Variant with New ‘Slim’ Model

According to Pu, Apple is working on a new model that will flaunt a “Slim Design” and replace the ongoing “Plus” variant. Unfortunately, there are no details about how it will look.

iPhone 17 Series RAM and SoC

According to Pu’s report, the vanilla iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Slim will pack 8GB of RAM with A18 or A19 chipsets, while the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max are said to have 12GB RAM and an A17 Pro SoC.
