Several months have passed since the introduction of the latest iteration of Android by the search engine giant Google. Many smartphone brands, including Samsung, Xiaomi, OPPO, and others, have already rolled out the stable Android 14 update and revealed the list of eligible smartphones. However, HMD Global is yet to reveal the full list of eligible devices and push updates to its smartphones. But it looks like HMD Global has made a start and is now rolling out the stable Android 14 update to the Nokia G42 5G smartphone.

Nokia G42 5G Android 14 Update

The Nokia G42 5G smartphone was launched in September 2023 by HMD Global in India. The device debuted with Android 13 out of the box and is eligible for two major OS updates. HMD Global has pushed the update with the version number V2.160, which is 2.68GB in size. The OTA update is live for smartphone users in India.

The Android 14 update for the smartphone also bundles the December 2023 security patch. The update is being rolled out in batches and might take a couple of days for every user to receive the update in the country. The update will also likely arrive in other markets in the upcoming weeks.

The changelog of the update mentions the major features introduced by Google in Android 14. HMD Global is also bundling various health tracking features with the Android 14 update to improve the wellness of G42 5G smartphone users.

The update adds new lock screen templates, themes, and camera and screen flashes for alerting users with notifications. HMD Global also brings support for Ultra HDR images. The smartphone also now supports predictive back gestures and multiple other features.

The smartphone launched in a new colour variant with new storage and RAM configuration in India on October 2023. The 8GB RAM + 256GB storage variant of the smartphone is priced at Rs 16,999. The base variant with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage retails for Rs 11,999 in the country.

HMD Global is also reportedly testing the Android 14 update for the Nokia G605 5G and Nokia X30 5G smartphones. These smartphones, which run on Android 14, recently appeared on the Geekbench database. In related news, Lenovo-owned brand Motorola also recently confirmed the smartphones that are eligible for the Android 14 update.

The reason for the delay in the Android 14 update for Nokia smartphones is likely because HMD Global is preparing to debut its own smartphone brand. A recent leak suggests that HMD Global will debut the smartphones in India first during H1 2024.
