Popular leakster @OnLeaks partnered with the folks over at Pricebaba earlier this month to release the first CAD renders of the OnePlus 7 Pro. The renders revealed a notch-less display with a pop-up selfie camera as well as triple cameras on the back. Ahead of the smartphone’s global debut on May 14, the team at Wired managed to get an early hands-on experience with the OnePlus 7 Pro.
OnePlus 7 Pro Will be a Significant Upgrade Over the 6T in Terms of Imaging
The OnePlus 7 Pro unit accessed by Wired was a “near final” pre-production model. According to them, the OnePlus 7 Pro camera isn’t as disruptive and attention-grabbing like the Huawei P30 Pro. Despite that, the report claims the OnePlus 7 Pro offers a significantly better camera experience compared to the OnePlus 6T. One of the major highlights of the upcoming flagship phone will be its 3x optical zoom. While it may not be as impressive as the Huawei P30’s 5x zoom, 3x zoom on the OnePlus 7 Pro will allow users to get fairly close to their subject while retaining a good amount of detail. It will also have 10x digital zoom, although it will likely not be very useful. Video captured with 3x zoom is said to be stabilized to a degree and looks quite impressive.
With a shutter lag of 0.3 seconds or less, the OnePlus 7 Pro will be more or less on par with other flagship phones, although not quite as fast as the Pixel 3. The burst mode, however, has a 20-frame limit. As suggested by recent leaks, the primary snapper on the back of the OnePlus 7 Pro will be a 48-megapixel unit. According to Wired, the main camera will use pixel binning to create 12-megapixel images. This means it may not be possible to capture images at the full 48-megapixel resolution. Thanks to the downsampling, however, images captured by the main camera will have reduced noise. When compared to the Huawei P30, however, the noise reduction is apparently less aggressive.
Low-light performance has reportedly been improved as well. The OnePlus 7 Pro will feature a rebranded Night Mode that delivers results closer to the level of the P30 Pro, while being much quicker to use. Image processing has been tweaked too, as can be seen in the samples above, resulting in more natural photos compared to previous OnePlus smartphones. Some of the other improvements noted by Wired include a superior portrait mode and better HDR implementation.
OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro India Launch on May 14
OnePlus confirmed last week that it will debut its next flagship smartphones at an event in New York on May 14. In addition to New York, the company will also hold simultaneous launch events in Bangalore and London. In China, the launch event is scheduled for May 16. Interestingly, the India launch event in Bangalore will begin fifteen minutes earlier than the event in New York. The OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro India launch event will begin at 8:15 PM IST at the Bengaluru International Exhibition Centre. Like previous OnePlus phones launched in the country, the OnePlus 7 series will be sold online via Amazon.in.
