Oppo has confirmed the launch date of its annual Inno Day event in China. The company will host its event this year on December 14 and 15. At the event, the company is expected to tease some futuristic technology that could make way to future Oppo smartphones and devices. The company has started dropping teasers about what to expect from the Oppo Inno Day 2021. The latest teaser reveals a new camera module design with a retractable lens. Let’s take a look at more details about the Oppo smartphone with a retractable camera sensor teased ahead of Inno Day 2021.
Oppo Inno Day 2021
The new video teaser uploaded on the Oppo Twitter handle reveals a new retractable camera sensor that protrudes outwards. The text on the camera module reveals that the device has a 1/1.56” camera sensor with a 50mm focal length and an f/2.4 aperture. Oppo did not dive deep into the details of its “self-developed retractable camera”. The video teaser reveals that the sensor extends outwards after the camera app is opened. It is unknown if this camera sensor will be used for telephoto zoom capabilities or simply fit in a larger sensor inside the camera module.
Most pop-ups are annoying…
But not our self-developed retractable camera! 😉

Despite the camera sensor popping out, the unknown Oppo smartphone will have water resistance. Oppo’s teaser video also shows that the retractable camera module will also have some form of drop resistance in case of an accidental drop. We can expect a similar mechanism found in pop-up cameras, wherein the camera module goes back in immediately after detecting a fall. More details of the camera module will be revealed at the Inno Day event on December 14.
The company is also rumoured to launch a premium/ flagship smartphone at the annual event. It could be the rumoured Find X4 series, which is rumoured to feature the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. Oppo is also rumoured to launch a new foldable smartphone at its annual event in December 2021.
