How Prime Day 2025 Is Democratizing Premium Gadgets Across Bharat

Amazon India is back with its biggest shopping extravaganza—Prime Day 2025—promising unbeatable deals on consumer electronics and more. Over the years, Prime Day has evolved into a key shopping moment for millions of Indian consumers. This year, the focus is not only on premium product launches and discounts but also on affordability and expanding access to the latest tech across India’s heartlands.

In an exclusive conversation with Zeba Khan, Director, Consumer Electronics, Amazon India, we got an inside look at how Prime Day 2025 is shaping up, key trends in consumer electronics, and how Amazon is deepening its presence in non-metro markets.

Why This Conversation Matters

  • Prime Day is now longer: With a 72-hour format, deeper deals, and major product launches, Amazon is positioning Prime Day as more than a discount event. It's now looking at giving more options to the customers and helping them bring big-ticket purchases within reach of the aspirational Indian consumer.
  • The "mass premium" trend is reshaping e-commerce: Zeba noted that in recent times, there is a surge in demand for premium smartphones, laptops, and large-screen TVs. Moreover, Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities are contributing majorly to this trend, signaling that premium is no longer just for metros. Amazon is tapping into this shift by combining brand selection with financial levers like no-cost EMI, cashback, and ₹99/day offers to drive affordability without compromising on quality.
  • Nearly 70% of smartphone sales are coming from Tier 2 and 3 cities: Not only this, but even a growing share of large appliance purchases now come from smaller towns. Amazon's logistics expansion, focus on 100% pin-code coverage, and investment in installation services across 300+ cities reflect a long-term play to win trust and loyalty beyond India's metros.
  • AI-enabled tech is in great demand: From AI-powered smartphones to smart TVs with QLED and voice assistants, Amazon is doubling down on showcasing the next generation of intelligent electronics. These innovations are no longer niche—they're becoming mainstream, with dedicated storefronts and buying guides tailored for emerging users.

Our interview follows:

A Three-Day Shopping Bonanza Focused on Access and Affordability

“We're super excited about Prime Day this year. We’ve made it even bigger—it’s a 72-hour event versus two days last year,” said Khan. The focus this year is not only on providing access to the latest premium technology across metros, Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 cities, but also on making these products more affordable through attractive offers and financial tools.

Amazon is offering an expansive selection of consumer electronics, from smartphones and smart TVs to premium laptops and large appliances. Shoppers can expect exciting launches, instant cashbacks, bank discounts (including 10% off with SBI and ICICI Bank cards), and no-cost EMI options, making big-ticket items like premium TVs accessible for as little as Rs 99 per day.

AI Smartphones, Premium Tech, and Changing Consumer Preferences

The demand for premium smartphones continues to surge, particularly with the rise of AI-enabled devices. “The AI-nisation trend continues across categories,” Khan noted, revealing that smartphones priced above Rs 30,000—where AI features are more common—are growing at 46% year-on-year on Amazon India.

Premium segments such as laptops, smartwatches priced above Rs 10,000, cameras, and large-screen TVs (55-inch and above) are all witnessing strong double-digit or even triple-digit growth. Importantly, this growth is no longer confined to metros; it’s increasingly mirrored in smaller cities.

Smart TV Boom and Emerging Technologies

Smart TVs remain one of the fastest-growing categories, with 55-inch and larger screens driving the most demand. “We are also seeing strong traction for newer technologies like QLED within televisions,” Khan added. The arrival of new players like Lumio alongside established brands like Sony and Hisense is heating up competition in this space.

Tier 2 and Tier 3 Cities Fuel E-Commerce Growth

A striking shift this Prime Day is the role of smaller towns in driving premium tech adoption. “Seventy percent of our smartphone demand now comes from Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities,” Khan revealed. This demographic is not only buying more premium devices but is also taking advantage of affordability tools such as no-cost EMIs and cashback offers to fuel their purchases.

Affordability as a Key Growth Lever

Affordability programs are now central to Amazon's strategy, with 30-40% of premium electronics sales happening through no-cost EMI. “These levers help customers not just access but also afford premium technology,” Khan explained.

Top Performing Categories and the Rise of New Challengers

While Khan refrained from naming specific brands, she confirmed that all leading premium brands in smartphones, laptops, and large appliances are performing strongly on the platform. Additionally, new direct-to-consumer (D2C) brands are beginning to make their mark, offering fresh competition in established categories.

Expanding Reach and Building Long-Term Trust

From a strategic perspective, Amazon India is committed to enhancing both reach and speed, backed by over Rs 2,000 crore in new investments for its operations network in 2025. “We service 100% of the serviceable pin codes in India,” Khan emphasized, underlining Amazon's continued push to make premium tech and new innovations, including AI-integrated devices, accessible across the country.

In addition to faster delivery, Amazon is also focused on customer education through curated storefronts like “Smart Choice” for laptops, helping users make informed buying decisions. Value-added services such as installation for large appliances are also being scaled, now available in over 300 cities.

With Prime Day 2025, Amazon India is not just offering deals—it is democratizing premium technology for millions across India. As affordability, selection, and accessibility converge, this year’s sale reflects both the evolving aspirations of Indian consumers and the growing importance of e-commerce in their daily lives.
