Krafton’s PUBG Mobile, Activision’s Call of Duty Mobile and Garena’s Free Fire have been nominated in a list of eight mobile game titles for the coveted esports mobile game of the year award, at the upcoming Esports Awards 2021. The three above-mentioned games have consistently ranked as among the most popular battle royale titles across the world, and it is hence an unsurprising presence in the final shortlist of the best esports titles on mobile platforms for 2021. Apart from the three heavyweights, the esports mobile game of the year has five more nominees – Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, Clash Royale, Brawl Stars, Arena of Valor and League of Legends: Wild Rift.

The Esports Awards are one of the bigger gaming prizes to be won by developers and publishers, and features a wide range of awards categories celebrating various stakeholders in the industry. These include teams offering the best esports apparel of the year, the best esports content creator of the year, best esports personality of the year and the best streamer of the year. Voting for each of the categories have now been opened, so anyone with interest in the esports space can vote for their favourite entrants in these categories.

PUBG Mobile has been arguably the most popular title of the lot in terms of setting precedent in the esports and battle royale spaces. PUBG set the tone for the battle royale format, which numerous titles have successfully followed – turning it into one of the most played gaming genres today. The esports industry also witnessed a massive boom with battle royale coming to mobile devices, and is now a multi-billion dollar competitive mobile gaming industry that has extensive tournaments and sponsors to boot. The Esports Awards 2021 stands testament to that.

While India has also seen massive interest in this space, things took a turn when PUBG Mobile was banned in the country. Krafton has now slated plans for a return with a slightly tweaked edition of the game titled Battlegrounds Mobile India, but the official launch date for the latter still remains under wraps. Both Free Fire and Call of Duty Mobile have since taken over the popularity charts, keeping India as one of the fastest developing nations in the esports space globally.
