The Samsung Galaxy A9 (2018) is the company’s first smartphone with four cameras at the rear. It was launched first launched internationally in October and then in India late last month. The phone has now received a software update that takes the camera performance even further, thereby, improving the image quality.
Even though the Galaxy A9 (2018) has four cameras on the rear, Samsung thinks that the phone can take even better pictures with some post-launch software tweaking. The company has tried to do that with the new software update, which should be released soon in the Indian market in a few weeks. Take a look at the screenshot below to know what the OTA update brings.
Galaxy A9 (2018) OTA Update: Changelog
As per the screenshot of the Galaxy A9 (2018)’s update changelog, the phone has started receiving an update with firmware version A920FXXU1ARKK and a file size of 132MB. It might take time to arrive and you can check it out manually in the Settings Menu -> About Phone -> Software Updates. The changelog isn’t very detailed as it describes the changes quite vaguely in just three points. The camera quality has been improved along with the stability of the camera app. The update also brings along November 2018 Android Security patch with it. Don’t expect Android Pie for the handset any time soon as even Samsung’s flagships have been lagging far behind the competition when it comes to that.
Samsung recently showed off its brand new One UI at its San Francisco developer conference. The company even started the beta update program for Android Pie-based One UI for the Galaxy Note 9, Galaxy S9 and the Galaxy S9+. So, there’s plenty of time before the Galaxy A9 (2018) receives the update. However, we can certainly expect that to happen in the coming months. For now, you’ll have to be content with Android 8.0 Oreo and this new OTA.
Galaxy A9 (2018) Camera Specifications
While we’re on the subject of cameras, the Galaxy A9 (2018) has all sorts of features that a mobile camera enthusiast would want. Its quad-camera setup is the biggest selling point. There’s a 24MP primary sensor with f/1.7 aperture and 4K video recording. There’s a 10MP telephoto camera with 2x optical zoom for times when you have to zoom in without affecting the image quality. The 8MP sensor is fitted with an ultra-wide lens which can cover 120-degree field-of-view. There’s also a 5MP depth-sensing camera sensor which is used in the Live Focus mode that helps in capturing images with background blur effect. There’s also AI for scene detection and face beauty features. At the front, there’s a single 24MP sensor with f/2.0 aperture and 1080p video recording.
If you’re interested in more specifications of the phone’s hardware and software, the Galaxy A9 (2018) has a pretty, glossy gradient color finish. It is probably one of the first Samsung phones to have a gradient color option. Inside the chassis, there’s a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 AIE processor with CPU clock speeds of up to 2.2GHz and Adreno 512 GPU. The phone is available in 6GB and 8GB RAM versions, with 128GB of internal storage. The handset comes packed with a beefy, 3800mAh battery that powers the 6.3-inch Super AMOLED Infinity Display. The Samsung Galaxy A9 (2018) costs INR 39,990 in India and is available in Bubblegum Pink, Caviar Black, and Lemonade Blue.
