As scheduled, Samsung has launched the Galaxy Fold smartphone in the Indian market today, making it the first foldable smartphone to launch in the country. The Samsung Galaxy Fold is the first foldable smartphone from the brand, and it was revealed at the Unpacked event back in February in San Francisco. The device recently went on sale in a few countries outside India, and today it has finally launched in the Indian market.

Samsung Galaxy Fold Price in India, Availability

The Samsung Galaxy Fold, being a foldable smartphone, has a high manufacturing cost, and that reflects in the retail price of the smartphone – it costs a shocking INR 1,64,999. That’s for the 12GB RAM + 512GB storage variant, and it is the only variant that is available officially in India. At this price point, the Samsung Galaxy Fold is the costliest smartphone in the country.


The Samsung Galaxy Fold will be available for pre-orders starting 4th October, and it will go on sale starting 20th October. You can pre-order or buy one from Samsung’s online store, major e-commerce websites, and Samsung authorized offline outlets.

Samsung Galaxy Fold Specifications

The Samsung Galaxy Fold, as the name suggests, is a foldable screen smartphone. It can be used as a regular handset when it is folded, and as a tablet when you unfold it. To enable this, there are two screens – one on the outside and the other on the inside. The screen on the outside is a 4.6-inch Super AMOLED unit with HD+ resolution. And the screen on the inside is a foldable, 7.3-inch Super AMOLED unit featuring Full HD+ resolution and HDR10+.

The Samsung Galaxy Fold has a total of six cameras – three at the rear, two above the inside screen, and one above the outside screen. The triple-camera setup at the back comprises of a 12MP primary camera with Dual Pixel PDAF and OIS, a 12MP telephoto camera with OIS, and a 16MP ultrawide camera. The dual-camera setup above the inside screen has a 10MP autofocus primary camera and an 8MP depth-sensor. The one above the outside screen is also a 10MP autofocus unit.

Powering the Samsung Galaxy Fold is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC. And it runs on Android 9 Pie OS with One UI that has been customized to enable dual-mode usage. As I said earlier, there is 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. The Samsung Galaxy Fold packs a 4380mAh battery featuring 15W fast charging. There is also a 15W wireless fast charging option. Other key features of the smartphone include a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, stereo speakers, and dual-band Wi-Fi ax.
