Samsung introduced its Galaxy J8 smartphone alongside the Galaxy J6 in India in May this year. Both smartphones feature an Infinity Display, which makes them more desirable than previous J-series smartphones from the company. Unlike Samsung’s flagship models, however, the Galaxy J8 and Galaxy J6 (review) smartphones have not received many software updates. After a long gap, Samsung has now started rolling out a new software update for the Galaxy J8 with the AR Emoji feature and support for Dual 4G VoLTE. The latest update is now being rolled out via the OTA route.

New Galaxy J8 Update Adds AR Emoji Feature, Dual 4G VoLTE Support
The latest software update for the Galaxy J8 carries the build version J810GDDU2ARJ4. The key highlight of the software update for most users will be the addition of the AR Emoji feature, which Samsung debuted with the Galaxy S9 earlier this year. The AR Emoji feature basically lets you turn your selfie into an animated version of yourself, similar to Animojis on the latest iPhones. On Samsung flagships, users can also use classic Disney characters as AR Emojis. Since the Galaxy J8 is not a flagship-grade device, it does not support them. Another thing to note is that the AR Emoji feature on the Galaxy J8 and other budget Galaxy smartphones will not work in real time.
