While the Vivo V30 and V30 Pro focussed more on their camera prowess, the youngest sibling in the series — the Vivo V30e looks to be the cute kid in the family by trying to capture everyone’s love. It’s packaged as an all-rounder with a fairly big battery, a fast display, and an IP64 rating. The camera department has not yet been forgotten; it still manages to get a 50MP primary camera and there’s a 50MP selfie camera as well. The rear camera is also paired with an Aura light, which is found on slightly more costlier devices. While the full review is in the works, let’s take a quick look at the V30e in my first impressions.
Vivo V30e First Impressions: Design and Display
The V30e has a revamped design compared to its predecessor, the V29e. The phone remains slim while also packing in a comparatively bigger battery. The V30e opts for a circular camera module at the back accompanied by a golden outer ring, giving it some colour disparity. A new inclusion with the V30e is the Studio-Quality Aura Light, found on the V30 and V30 Pro as well.
The back panel is divided into two finishes. Most of it is covered by a matte finish, while the rest has a glossy finish. The phone comes in Velvet Red and Silk Blue colourways, both the options look gorgeous. The button placements are pretty much the same. The V30e weighs around 188 grams for the red colourway. It’s fairly lightweight to carry around in your pockets. The phone also comes with an IP64 rating, which is good.
In our limited testing time, the 6.78-inch AMOLED panel produced good and vibrant colours. The display also comes with a 120Hz refresh rate, which aids a smooth scrolling experience throughout the UI. The curved display adds to the device’s premium vibe, but the curvature does not seem as aggressive as other phones like the Moto Edge 50 Pro. This could be for the better, as it might help avoid accidental touches more.
Vivo also claims a peak brightness of 1300 nits, so this should not have any issues with direct sunlight. We’ll check that rigorously during the full review. You also get an in-display fingerprint sensor.
Vivo V30e First Impressions: Cameras
In terms of numbers, the V30e’s primary camera sees a downgrade from 64-megapixel to 50-megapixel compared to the V29e. The secondary camera remains the same with an 8-megapixel ultra-wide shooter marking its presence. I like the fact that they haven’t included a lower-resolution macro camera for the sake of it. The 50-megapixel front camera remains the same
The primary camera also comes with OIS, which should help take better photos in low-light conditions. The V30e can shoot videos at up to 4K 30fps. For 60fps, you’ll have to stick to 1080p.
The phone captures bright photos in daylight. However, it tends to lose details in the shadows. This is far more evident in the wide-angle captures. We’ll be testing the cameras in detail during the full review, so keep an eye out for that.
Vivo V30e First Impressions: Hardware and Software
The V30e is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 6 Gen 1. This same chipset is found on the Realme 12 Pro. To give you an idea of what to expect in terms of performance, the V30e scores about 570,951 on the AnTuTu test.
You also get up to 8GB RAM and 256GB storage. The phone also receives an upgrade in the form of a 5,500mAh battery, which is commendable, especially considering the device’s thin form factor. You also get a 44W fast charger for charging duties.
The V30e runs on FunTouch OS 14, based on Android 14. If you’ve used other Vivo devices, the user interface (UI) will feel right at home. It comes with several pre-installed apps, such as Snapchat, PhonePe, and more—all of which can be uninstalled if unnecessary.
Final Thoughts
In some aspects, the Vivo V30e seems like a good upgrade over its predecessor. While the other phones in this series target camera-centric buyers, this will be able to lure in people looking for a more balanced phone.
While its price was not released at the time of writing this piece, based on the V29e price range, the V30e could very well rival the Samsung Galaxy M55, OnePlus Nord CE4, and the Nothing Phone 2(a).
