The Chinese smartphone maker, Vivo, is gearing up to launch yet another handset in the Y-series. The latest phone to join the lineup is the Vivo Y91. According to a report from 91Mobiles, Vivo will be launching the phone with different specifications than the one available in China. Tellingly, one of the major changes will involve the processor, instead of Snapdragon 439 chipset used on the global variant, this one will come powered by a MediaTek Helio P22 SoC. Keep reading to know more details about the Vivo Y91 launch in India.

Vivo Y91 Expected Price in India, Specifications

The report states that the Vivo Y91 will be launched at INR 10,990 in India. It will debut in a single variant featuring 2GB of RAM and 32GB of inbuilt storage. The exact launch date of the phone is not confirmed, but the report says that Vivo may launch the handset around January 20, 2019, in India. The global variant was launched in Starry Black and Ocean Blue color variants. The Indian variant is also expected to come with the same options.

As we mentioned in the beginning that the phone would feature a MediaTek Helio P22 chipset instead of the Snapdragon 439 SoC, the former is based on 12nm FinFET technology and support AI-assisted features such as Face Unlock.

Brushing up the previous reports, the Vivo Y91 was first launched in the Philippines. It comes with a 6.22-inch HD+ Halo FullView display with 720×1520 pixels resolution and 19:9 aspect ratio. It runs Android 8.1 Oreo-based FunTouch OS 4.5 out-of-the-box. The Indian version of the Y91 will have lesser RAM capacity (2GB) than the global variant that has 3GB of RAM.

Concerning the camera department, the Vivo Y91 sports a 13MP+2MP dual rear cameras, wherein the primary sensor gets f/2.2 aperture and the secondary sensor gets f/2.4 aperture. There is an 8MP selfie snapper on the front. A 4,030mAh battery backs the Y91. Connectivity options include dual-SIM, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and GPS.

It’s worth noting that the global variant of the Y91 packed the exact same specs as the Vivo Y93 that was launched in India in December 2018, priced at INR 13,990. This could be the reason why Vivo has undermined the specs of the Y91 for India market.

Battling With The Better Alternatives

At its price tag, the Vivo Y91 will be facing fierce competition from ASUS ZenFone Max Pro M1 (review) and the Realme 2. In the battle of specs, both the phones weigh higher than the Vivo Y91 on various levels. The only way for the Vivo Y91 to taste success on the market is by getting a lower price tag for India. Otherwise, there are a slew of better alternatives that pack higher RAM and better processor than the Y91. The only part where the Y91 looks up is the design, it does look premium with the gradient back panel.
