LG Electronics India has introduced 15 semi-automatic washing machines with capacities ranging from 8kg to 12kg. The launch refreshes an established part of its appliance business ahead of the festive shopping season, with improvements focused on rinsing, scrubbing, lint collection and spin drying.
For LG, the range addresses buyers who still prioritise capacity, purchase cost and control over the wash cycle. A 15-model refresh suggests the company sees room to upgrade the semi-automatic experience even as it promotes more premium, fully automatic machines.
Why Semi-Automatic Washing Machines Still Matter to LG
LG has operated in India since 1997, and its washing-machine portfolio has evolved across several price segments. Back in 2019, it announced a 35-model range of five-star-rated washing machines, with capacities from 6kg to 11kg. That history gives the latest launch context: this is an update to a longstanding appliance business with both first-time and replacement buyers to serve.
More recently, LG's Q4 FY26 results highlighted growth in premium fully automatic washing machines. The company also outlined plans to expand its premium portfolio while strengthening its Essential lineup. Its continued investment in semi-automatic models suggests that serving different budgets remains important alongside selling more expensive appliances.
Semi-automatic machines remain relevant in homes with irregular water supply or limited plumbing access, and for buyers who prefer manual control. The trade-off is the extra involvement, including moving clothes between the wash and spin tubs. For a household replacing an older machine this festive season, a larger-capacity semi-automatic can therefore remain a practical choice.
LG's New Range Focuses on Everyday Washing Problems
Dual Spin Shower uses two water inlets to help rinse detergent residue from clothes. LG says the whale-tail-inspired Roller Jet Pulsator+ improves water movement and the circulation of clothes, while an Ultra Scrub Wall targets dirt on cuffs, collars and other heavily soiled areas.
A removable Smart Filter collects lint, and Wind Jet Dry+ uses airflow during spinning to help remove excess moisture. The range also includes a 3+1 wash programme setup and Rat Away technology.
The machines get a box-type body with patterned finishes in colours including Onyx Black, Middle Black and Burgundy. Select models feature toughened glass lids with a soft-closing mechanism, adding a convenience more immediately noticeable in daily use than another wash-mode name.
Competition and Pricing Will Shape the Festive Pitch
LG's rivals are addressing similar needs. Samsung's semi-automatic range includes lint filters and Air Turbo spin-drying features, while Whirlpool's ACE XL range uses its Dynamix detergent dispenser to tackle detergent patches. This makes the contest about how well each machine handles familiar laundry problems, alongside capacity, service and price.
LG's established presence should help it get onto buyers' shortlists, but pricing will determine how persuasive the upgrade is. If higher-end semi-automatic models approach the cost of a fully automatic top-loader, the convenience of completing a wash without transferring clothes becomes part of the comparison.
LG has not disclosed individual model numbers, prices or a detailed retail rollout. The machines are being manufactured at Greater Noida, with exports of its AX semi-automatic range to more than 10 countries planned for 2027.
