WhatsApp will soon get a Pinned Events section within the Communities tab on the platform. The new feature is intended to help members within a WhatsApp Community stay upto date with the events shared in one of the many groups in the community and create reminders for specific occasions. The feature is currently rolling out to WhatsApp Beta for Android version 2.24.3.20 update. The new version is currently available for download on the Play Store for those who have signed up for WhatsApp Beta.
WhatsApp Communities to Get Pinned Events Feature Soon
The new pinned events feature was spotted by the popular WhatsApp Beta Updates tracking website, WABetaInfo. The publication has shared a screenshot of the said feature revealing how the function will work and what it will look like. There’s a highlighted events tab on the top above groups with the community. This makes it easier for the members of the WhatsApp community to check what events are being planned by admins and when they will take place.
The best part about the feature is that WhatsApp community admins don’t need to create a pinned event proactively. The feature will automatically recognise when a planned event is shared by an admin within one of the groups in the community and pin it in the community description section. This is particularly useful for WhatsApp Communities that have multiple groups and are super active with a lot of messages being shared.
Tapping on the pinned event will provide further information to users whether it’s a scheduled call or a reminder for an event. The feature will help users save time and also ensure that they don’t miss any important events planned by community admins.
Typically users will have to scroll through a ton of messages or use the search function to look up an event, but the new feature will save them from this effort. The feature is rolling out to WhatsApp Beta users on Android currently, which means there’s still some time before it rolls out to stable users worldwide.
However, we know that the feature is in the works and is coming soon. WhatsApp has already rolled out the ability to pin chats withing group and personal chats, which is very convenient to keep important messages visible on top always for easy reference.
