In August this year, Xiaomi launched its second Android One smartphone in India, the Mi A2. At the time of its launch in the country, Xiaomi only introduced a single memory configuration for the Indian market. However, it did promise that the 6GB RAM + 128GB storage variant of the smartphone would also be made available “soon”. The wait for Xiaomi fans is finally over as the Mi A2 6GB RAM + 128GB storage variant has now been listed on Mi.com, the company’s own e-commerce platform. While the 6GB RAM variant is now available for purchase, we do expect it to go on sale very soon.

Xiaomi Mi A2 6GB RAM Variant Now Listed on Mi Online Store

The Xiaomi Mi A2 (review) Android One smartphone is now listed in two variants on the Mi India online store – 4GB RAM + 64GB storage and 6GB RAM + 128GB storage. As many of you might be aware, the 4GB RAM variant of the Mi A2 is being sold at INR 14,999 for a limited period on Mi.com as well as Amazon.in. The 6GB RAM + 128GB storage variant, however, has been listed at INR 19,999. In case Xiaomi decides to begin selling the 6GB RAM + 128GB storage variant within the next few days, there is a small chance that it too could be sold at a discounted price for the festive season. Just like the 4GB RAM variant, the Mi A2 6GB RAM variant will be available in four colors: Black, Blue, Gold, and Red.

As for launch offers, Jio subscribers can get an instant cashback of INR 2,200 and up to 4.5TB of additional 4G data on purchasing the Mi A2. Those who purchase the smartphone from the Mi India online store can also avail ixigo coupons worth INR 3,500.

Mi A2 6GB RAM Variant Priced Dangerously Close to the POCO F1

Thanks to a few shortcomings, the Mi A2 has not been nearly as successful as the Mi A1 in the Indian market. At INR 19,990, the 6GB RAM + 128GB storage does not seem like a great buy. For just INR 1,000 more, you can get the POCO F1 (review) base variant with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of onboard storage. While the POCO F1 base variant may not offer the same amount of storage, it includes a microSD card slot for further expansion. The Mi A2, on the other hand, does not support memory expansion. When it comes to the rest of the hardware specifications, the POCO F1 has a clear edge over the Mi A1 in almost all areas, except for software. The POCO F1 runs on Xiaomi’s custom MIUI software as opposed to stock Android. Since Android One smartphones are guaranteed to receive security updates for up to three years from the date of launch, the Mi A2 has a significant edge over the POCO F1 in the software department. In terms of hardware, however, the POCO F1 easily beats the Mi A2 with its bigger display, significantly more powerful processor, capable front and rear cameras, as well as a large 4000mAh battery.

The POCO F1 is not the only smartphone that the Mi A2 6GB RAM variant needs to worry about. Honor Play is another great alternative to the Mi A2. You can check out how the Mi A2 4GB RAM variant fares against the Honor Play in our quick review video below.
