Remember, Nubia? A ZTE sub-brand that was once active in India but had been inactive for a few years. Well, in the latest move, the brand is making a comeback in India this festive season with its Nubia Red Magic smartphone, which is an out and out gaming-centric device. Outrightly, the Red Magic strikes as a competitor to recently launched gaming smartphones such as the Honor Play (review), Xiaomi Black Shark Helo, and others. Let’s dig further into the news about Nubia’s comeback in India and what the Red Magic packs.
Nubia’s Comeback Will Be Headlined By Red Magic Smartphone in India
According to the reports, the Nubia Red Magic will be launched around Diwali and is expected to boast an under 30K price mark. The company will also be putting it up for pre-booking. The Red Magic smartphone has already launched in other markets, back in April this year. The phone features a vivid design with a customizable LED RGB strip, which may entice gaming enthusiasts. The phone comes with graphite, convex-styled rear panel clubbed with four cooling ports that keep the phone’s temperature in check during intense gaming sessions.
The company takes pride in its gaming-centric smartphone, which reflects on the official website. A statement on the company’s website reads,“At its peak temperature, it’s almost ten degrees cooler than an iPhone X.”
What the Red Magic Packs?
It comes with a 5.99-inch LTPS TFT display panel bearing full-HD+ 1080×2160 pixels resolution with an 18:9 aspect ratio, 403ppi of pixel density, and an 85 percent screen-to-body ratio. The phone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset coupled with Adreno 540 GPU. It houses 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 128GB of UFS 2.1 internal storage.
Concerning optics, the phone sports a 24MP rear camera with f/1.7 aperture, 0.9-micron pixel size, and support for 4K video recording at 30fps. There is an 8MP selfie snapper on the front with f/2.0 aperture and support for 1080p video recording at 30fps. A 3800mAh battery backs the device with the backing for NeoPower 3.0 and Nubia fast charging technology
In terms of connectivity, the Nubia Red Magic supports 4G VoLTE, dual-band 2X2 MIMO Wi-Fi 802.11ac, USB Type-C port, GPS, GLONASS, Bluetooth v5.0, BeiDou, and a 3.5mm audio jack. The phone measures 158.1×74.9×9.5mm and weighs 185 grams.
The Challenges in the Indian Smartphone Market
OnePlus is launching its much-awaited OnePlus 6T smartphone today at a global event. The phone is expected to take on the success of the OnePlus 6 in India. Now, India is undoubtedly a competitive market for OEMs, right from Xiaomi to Oppo, we have witnessed every brand coming out with new strategies to woo the Indian consumers. Nubia sure has a long way to go before it becomes relevant in India again. One thing that the brand seems to have gotten right is the pricing; if the Red Magic is launched under or around 30K, we can expect it to taste moderate success in the market.
Xiaomi recently launched the Black Shark Helo gaming phone in China and is expected to launch it in India too. This means more competition for the Nubia Red Magic in the region. Besides, Huawei’s sub-brand, Honor, has already claimed some space in the gaming smartphone segment with the Honor Play at 20K. Of course, the Honor Play does not come close to the Nubia Red Magic or the Black Shark Helo when it comes to high-end specs.
Nevertheless, it would be interesting to see if Nubia makes the cut in the Indian market. Stay tuned with us to get more info. Besides, you can check out our review video for the Honor Play. Subscribe to our YouTube channel to get notified whenever we upload such videos.
