iQOO 15 Hands-On: Subtle Design Tweaks, Camera Samples, a 7-Year Update Plan, and Big Promises

It’s that time of the year again, when brands start gearing up to launch their flagship smartphones, and one of them is the iQOO 15. Its predecessors impressed us all with high-speed performance, flagship-grade cameras, and excellent value. Now, it’s time for the iQOO 15 to carry that legacy forward. And judging by its specifications, it could be one of the strongest iQOO flagships the brand has made so far. It comes powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, features a flagship-grade triple-camera setup, a refined new design, runs on OriginOS 6, and packs the biggest battery ever on a numbered-series iQOO phone.

I got my hands on the iQOO 15 ahead of its official launch to try its camera, software, and overall experience. So, if you’re an iQOO fan or have been eyeing this upcoming device, here’s your first look at the iQOO 15.

How Does the iQOO 15 Look?

From a distance, the iQOO 15 looks almost identical to the iQOO 13, but the moment you hold it, the changes instantly become noticeable. It feels cleaner, definitely more premium, and the overall fit and finish have been improved.

I have the Legend variant with me, which has seen quite a few design iterations over the years. This time, you get a frosted glass back panel with iQOO branding and a colourful finish-line stripe. One interesting detail, though, there’s no BMW M branding this time. So, if you were a fan of that partnership, my condolences.

The Monster Halo Light, introduced with the iQOO 13, around the camera module is still here, but it’s more refined now. It’s not flashy or overdone like we have seen on some budget phones. Instead, it gives off a soft matte glow that complements the frosted glass finish nicely.

About the form factor, the phone still retains the boxy look. Now, I won’t call it a light phone, but it is as normal and heavy as your regular iPhones.

So, this is how the new iQOO 15 looks and feels in your hands. Now, let me tell you a little bit more about this phone.

How Good is the iQOO 15’s Camera?

The iQOO 15 comes with a triple camera setup, which houses a 50-megapixel Sony IMX921 main camera, a 50-megapixel Periscope Telephoto sensor with 3x optical zoom, and a 50-megapixel ultrawide lens.

Since we got early access to the smartphone, we can’t tell everything about it just yet. But we can definitely show you some telephoto shots.

You get the same focal lengths as you get on the iQOO 13: 23mm (1x), 50mm (2x), 85mm (3x), and 100mm. All the portrait shots are taken on 85mm (3x), because that’s my favourite focal length for portraits.

How Many Years of Software Updates and Security Patches?

iQOO has confirmed that the iQOO 15 will receive 5 years of major software updates and 7 years of security patches. That’s a strong commitment, especially for users who like to hold on to their phones for a long time.

The software, OriginOS 6, has also received a major refresh. You will notice new animations, redesigned interfaces, updated features, and an entirely new look and feel.

So, This Was the iQOO 15 (So Far)

That’s the iQOO 15 for now. We have started testing the phone, and there’s already a lot to talk about, but you will have to wait until November 26 for the full review. Stay tuned!
