Garmin has announced the Forerunner 70 and Forerunner 170 GPS running smartwatches for the Indian market, with availability scheduled for June 2026 following the completion of import processes and certifications. The new smartwatches feature AMOLED displays, touchscreen support, advanced training tools, and multi-day battery life aimed at runners and fitness-focused users.
Both smartwatches are designed for runners across different experience levels, ranging from beginners starting structured fitness routines to users looking for more advanced training and recovery metrics. Garmin says the watches combine premium running features with everyday health tracking and smart connectivity functions.
Garmin Forerunner 70 Specs
The Garmin Forerunner 70 includes built-in GPS alongside pace, distance, time, and wrist-based heart rate tracking. Garmin has also introduced a new "quick workouts" feature that generates training suggestions based on desired workout time and intensity level.
The smartwatch supports Garmin Coach adaptive training plans and daily suggested workouts, including run/walk routines that adjust based on performance and recovery metrics. Advanced training features include:
- Training readiness
- Training status
- Wrist-based running power
- Running dynamics
The watch also includes more than 80 built-in sports modes covering activities such as cycling, swimming, and strength training.
For health tracking, the Forerunner 70 offers:
- Advanced sleep tracking
- Sleep coach
- HRV status
- Pulse Ox
- Breathing variation monitoring
- Health Status tracking
Garmin says the Forerunner 70 delivers up to 13 days of battery life in smartwatch mode. The watch will be available in citron, cool lavender, black, and whitestone colour options.
Garmin Forerunner 170 and Forerunner 170 Music Features
The Forerunner 170 series includes more advanced training and recovery-focused metrics alongside pace, distance, and heart rate tracking. Features such as training readiness and training status are designed to help users understand workout recovery and overall training effectiveness.
The smartwatch also supports Garmin Coach personalised training plans tailored for both beginner and experienced runners. Garmin says both the standard Forerunner 170 and the Forerunner 170 Music variants offer up to 10 days of battery life in smartwatch mode.
Colour variants include:
- Black with black/amp yellow band
- Whitestone with a whitestone/cloud blue band
The Forerunner 170 Music variant will additionally be available in:
- Teal green with teal green/citron band
- Red pink with red pink/mango band
Garmin Forerunner 70 and 170 India Availability
Garmin says the Forerunner 70 and Forerunner 170 series will launch in India in June 2026. Pricing details have not yet been announced.
Susan Lyman, Garmin Vice President of Consumer Sales and Marketing, said the new smartwatches are designed to bring premium running and wellness features from Garmin's higher-end Forerunner lineup to newer and aspiring runners. Garmin appears to be pushing its Forerunner lineup beyond hardcore endurance athletes and toward a wider fitness audience that increasingly wants smartwatch-style usability alongside serious training metrics. The shift to AMOLED displays and more approachable training tools could help Garmin appeal to younger users and casual runners, especially as the broader smartwatch market becomes more health and wellness-focused rather than purely notification-driven.
