The Ray-Ban Meta Glasses have achieved something few hardware products have for Meta, building mainstream appeal.
While Meta has built dominance in the social media landscape, its growth in the hardware industry has been gradual. The Oculus VR is a strong product, but its momentum was somewhat impacted by the Metaverse setback and rising competition.
In contrast, the Ray-Ban Meta Glasses, introduced in 2021, continue to lead the smart glasses market. Their success is a no-brainer, considering they let users record and share moments seamlessly, all while blending in as a regular pair of sunglasses.
Due to this appeal, many tech enthusiasts in India have hoped to get their hands on them. Fortunately, the wait is almost over, as the much-awaited glasses are set to launch in India via Flipkart on 21 November. Before delving further into this exciting news, let's take a closer look at what makes the Ray-Ban Meta Glasses special.

These smart glasses look like any regular, stylish sunglasses on the market, allowing users to choose lenses that suit their vision. However, what makes the Ray-Ban Meta Glasses unique is that their rims feature two 12-megapixel ultra-wide cameras on either end, which record 1080p video at 60 fps. The 32GB of storage on board lets it store over 1,000 photos and 100 30-second-long videos.
What's more, users can enjoy their favourite music through the earpieces embedded in their temples. With the custom five-mic array, they can even talk to their friends on a call, send a WhatsApp voice note, or quickly clear their queries with Meta AI when needed. Yes, the Ray-Ban Meta Glasses run on proprietary firmware that powers voice control and Meta AI features and offers device syncing.
From the battery standpoint, these smart glasses are said to last four hours on moderate use. Once discharged, users can charge them using their portable charging case, which can be slipped into back pockets or any bag.
On the heels of this announcement, Lenskart also shared that it is launching a new edition of its smart glasses that can also shoot videos. For those unaware, Lenskart had unveiled a pair of glasses with some smart features at the start of 2025. These glasses could only play music through their speakers and let users ask their assistants questions and take calls. It is now gearing up to launch a new version by December, which will be more advanced.
For consumers, having another contender in the smart eyewear landscape beyond Meta is good news. More competition generally leads to better products and fairer pricing. There are also speculations regarding other players joining the space soon.
All this may drive Meta to reassess its strategy for the Indian market. It may need to refine its features, adjust pricing, or expand its lineup to stay competitive in a space that is about to grow faster and become more locally influenced. To provide context, the Ray-Ban Meta Glasses Gen 1 currently sells for 329.99 dollars, which is approximately Rs 29,167 in India. So, it may appeal more to a smaller group of early adopters rather than the wider public. However, given the competition and the company's plan to have a newer version, it may change.
The Ray-Ban Meta Glasses, launching on Flipkart, demonstrate that wearable tech can be both practical and stylish. They make everyday tasks easier, whether it is capturing moments hands-free, listening to music, taking calls, or getting quick answers through Meta AI. With a familiar sunglasses design, they are comfortable and easy to integrate into daily life. However, as someone following this space, I wouldn’t be too excited to hit the buy button and would like to see what Lenskart has to offer, as well as how the next generation of Meta glasses brings to the table, before making a decision.
