Boult CruiseCam X3 Review: A Dashcam That Exceeds Expectations

Boult recently took me by surprise when they launched their CruiseCam X3. It’s a dashcam that’s like a tiny, always-watching bodyguard for your car. At Rs 5,999, it’s got front and rear cameras, and it shoots in 2K FHD. But is it worth the price? We put it to the test, strapped it into our ride, and here’s what we found out.

Boult CruiseCam X3 Review: Design and Build Quality

The CruiseCam X3 stands out with its modern, minimalistic design. Boult has wisely avoided flashy colours or materials, resulting in a sleek profile that blends effortlessly into most car interiors. It’s compact enough to avoid obstructing your view while driving, yet sturdy enough to feel secure and dependable. The solid build quality is apparent as soon as you hold the device, giving it a reassuringly robust feel.

Furthermore, the microSD slot and control buttons are thoughtfully placed. The former is located on the left side, making it easy to insert or remove the card. The buttons, on the other hand, are positioned at the bottom, allowing drivers to access them without distraction.

These buttons are simple and tactile, enabling quick toggles between front and rear cameras or reviewing recordings, all while keeping your focus on the road—though we don’t recommend doing that.

Boult CruiseCam X3 Review: Installation and Setup

Installing the CruiseCam X3 is simple, especially for the front camera. Just stick the camera on the windshield, plug the power cord into the car’s 12W socket, and you’re good to go. Since it draws power from the socket, there’s no risk of draining the car’s battery or voiding the warranty, which is a big plus.

However, the rear camera installation is a bit more cumbersome. While it’s not overly complicated, it requires expertise to ensure that the wiring is neatly concealed within the car’s interior. So running the wire from the rear windshield to the front camera is best left to professionals, as improper installation will leave your car looking cluttered with exposed wires.

Boult CruiseCam X3 Review: Camera Quality

The CruiseCam X3’s imaging capabilities are a pleasant surprise. The front camera captures crisp, clear footage, allowing you to easily read number plates and identify people at close distances. However, I was particularly impressed with the night-time footage of this camera. Even during the dark, the camera was able to produce detailed footage without introducing excessive noise or grain, which is a big plus for any budget dashcam.

The 145-degree field of view is ample, covering a wide area that includes the edges of the bonnet and a broad expanse ahead. The rear camera offers similar performance, ensuring comprehensive coverage of your surroundings. The camera also records audio from inside the car, delivering clear sound quality that picks up conversations and ambient music with minimal distortion. For those who prefer not to record audio, this feature can be easily turned off via the accompanying app.

Boult CruiseCam X3 Review: App Support

This brings me to the app section. The CruiseCam X3 works with the Boult Cruise app, which is easy to use but has a few quirks. The app is intuitive and lets you change settings like date format and language without hassle. However, the main downside is that some features require connecting to the camera’s built-in Wi-Fi, meaning you have to be in the car with the engine running. While this isn’t a major issue, it does make the app a little less convenient.

Boult CruiseCam X3 Review: Verdict

If you’re in the market for a reliable dashcam that offers great front and rear coverage, the Boult CruiseCam X3 is definitely worth a look. The camera quality is impressive, whether it’s day or night, and the sleek design adds a touch of style to your car without getting in the way.

Sure, you might need a bit of help to install the rear camera, but once it’s all setup, you’ll appreciate the peace of mind it offers. For the price of Rs 6,999, it’s a value-for-money choice that ticks almost all the right boxes.
