Build Quality and Design
When I first unboxed the LEVOIT Air Purifier LV-H128, I was immediately impressed by its sleek and modern design. Weighing just 1.5 kg, it’s incredibly lightweight, making it easy to move from one room to another as needed. The purifier is made of sturdy plastic, which gives it a durable feel without adding extra weight. The footprint is tiny enough that you can place this on your bedside table quite easily (provided there isn’t already a lamp there, of course).
The design features rounded edges with smooth grooves on the front, adding a touch of elegance to its appearance. The white colour complements most interior décors, allowing it to blend seamlessly into any room without standing out. I also noticed vents on the sides, which likely aid in efficient air intake and circulation.
Operating the device is straightforward, thanks to the touch controls conveniently located on the top. The touch interface is responsive and intuitive, allowing me to adjust settings with just a gentle tap. Being a corded product, it requires a nearby power outlet, but the cord length is ample enough that placement wasn’t an issue during my testing in the MSP lab.
Overall, the LEVOIT LV-H128 combines aesthetics with functionality. Its compact and lightweight design makes it suitable for various spaces, and its understated look means it doesn’t draw unnecessary attention. If you’re looking for an air purifier that performs well without compromising on style, this model is definitely worth considering.
Filters and Air Purifier Performance
The LEVOIT Air Purifier LV-H128 is equipped with a comprehensive three-stage filtration system consisting of a pre-filter, HEPA filters, and an activated carbon filter. This setup is designed to capture a wide array of airborne pollutants, from large particles like dust and pet hair to microscopic allergens, bacteria, and odours.
To assess its effectiveness, we conducted two tests in the MSP lab: one with the purifier placed in a corner and another with it positioned at the centre of the room.
Corner Test
| Time (Minutes) | AQI | PM2.5 (µg/m³) |
| Starting Reading | 100 | 389 |
| 10 Minute Reading | 100 | 347 |
| 20 Minute Reading | 100 | 298 |
| 25 Minute Reading | 100 | 259 |
| 45 Minute Reading | 35 | 88 |
The Levoit LV-H128 is a dependable air purifier with a minimalistic design, ideal for budget-conscious buyers looking for gradual improvements in air quality. Starting with a PM 2.5 reading of 389 µg/m³, it achieves reductions to 347 in 10 minutes, 298 in 25 minutes, and an ultimate reading of 88 µg/m³. While its final performance is on par with models like Sharp Air Purifier FP-JA30M-B (review) and Eureka Forbes Air Purifier 150 (review), its slower intermediate reduction rates indicate it may take longer to purify heavily polluted air. AQI values follow a similar trend, dropping from 100 to 100 in 25 minutes before reaching an ultimate reading of 35. Despite its slower pace, the Levoit excels in maintaining low HCHO and TVOC levels, making it a reliable choice for those prioritizing long-term air quality improvements.
The corner performance of the Levoit LV-H128 reveals a gradual yet effective purification process compared to the Beurer LR 500 and Smart Air Sqair. Starting at a PM2.5 level of 389 µg/m³, the Levoit achieves a significant reduction to 79 µg/m³ (-79.7%) in its ultimate test, slightly better than the Smart Air Sqair’s 83 µg/m³ and closely matching the Beurer LR 500’s 88 µg/m³. However, the Smart Air Sqair demonstrates faster intermediate progress, reducing PM2.5 to 228 µg/m³ in 10 minutes, while the Levoit reaches 347 µg/m³ in the same timeframe. For HCHO levels, the Levoit maintains relative stability, starting at 0.175 mg/m³ and ending at 0.185 mg/m³, outperforming the Smart Air Sqair’s slight increase to 0.207 mg/m³ but comparable to the Beurer LR 500. On TVOC management, the Levoit’s performance is solid but lags behind slightly, ending at 0.817 mg/m³ compared to the Smart Air Sqair’s higher 0.914 mg/m³. Overall, the Levoit LV-H128 delivers effective purification in corner placements, excelling in ultimate results but progressing slower compared to its competitors.
Centre Test
| Time (Minutes) | AQI | PM2.5 (µg/m³) |
| Starting Reading | 100 | 399 |
| 10 Minute Reading | 100 | 334 |
| 20 Minute Reading | 100 | 294 |
| 25 Minute Reading | 100 | 260 |
| Ultimate Reading | 33 | 66 |
In the centre test, the purifier performed more efficiently. The Levoit LV-H128 showcases a minimalist design and gradual purification, making it a suitable option for smaller rooms with moderate air pollution. Starting with PM 2.5 levels of 399 µg/m³, it reduces pollutants to 334 in 10 minutes and 260 in 25 minutes, achieving a final reading of 66 µg/m³. Although its intermediate reduction rate is slower compared to Sharp or Qubo, its ultimate performance aligns with the best in this segment. Its AQI improvement from 100 to 33 reflects its effectiveness in long-term air purification. Maintaining HCHO levels at 0.191 mg/m³ and TVOC readings at 0.862 mg/m³, Levoit is a solid choice for budget-conscious buyers looking for steady, no-frills purification.
The Levoit LV-H128 is also priced similarly to Smart Air Sqair and Beurer LR 500, and all three deliver strong air purification performance, but their strengths vary. The Levoit LV-H128 achieves the best ultimate PM 2.5 reduction, bringing levels down from 399 µg/m³ to 66 µg/m³ (-83.5%), surpassing the Smart Air Sqair (82 µg/m³) and Beurer LR 500 (77 µg/m³). All three match the ultimate AQI improvement to 33. However, the Levoit is slower in intermediate reductions compared to the Smart Air Sqair, which demonstrates faster progress, and the Beurer LR 500, which closely follows. In handling formaldehyde (HCHO), the Levoit’s levels rise slightly from 0.189 mg/m³ to 0.193 mg/m³, while the Smart Air Sqair and Beurer LR 500 show more stability. For TVOC levels, the Levoit maintains consistency but falls between the other two models, with Beurer handling VOCs slightly better. While the Levoit excels in delivering the cleanest air over extended periods, users seeking rapid air quality improvement might prefer the Smart Air Sqair or Beurer LR 500.
Ease of Changing Filters and Cost
When it comes to maintenance, I always look for devices that won’t give me a headache, and the LEVOIT Air Purifier LV-H128 doesn’t disappoint. Changing the filters is a straightforward process that even someone who’s not particularly tech-savvy can handle with ease. The filter compartment is accessible from the bottom of the unit. All I needed to do was flip the purifier over, twist the base to unlock it, and the old filters slid out without any fuss. Inserting the new filters was just as simple—align them properly, slide them in, and twist the base back to its locked position.
This user-friendly design means I didn’t have to spend a lot of time or effort on maintenance. The whole process took me less than five minutes, which is great for someone with a busy schedule. There’s also a helpful indicator light that reminds you when it’s time to replace the filters, so you don’t have to keep track manually.
As for the cost, replacement filters are reasonably priced. Availability isn’t an issue either. I found that replacement filters are readily available both online and at various retail outlets, so you won’t have to hunt them down when the time comes.
Noise Levels
Noise can be a significant factor when choosing an air purifier, especially if you’re planning to use it in spaces where quiet is appreciated, like a bedroom or study. In my experience with the LEVOIT Air Purifier LV-H128, I found its noise levels to be quite agreeable. On the highest setting, I measured the peak noise at one foot away to be around 49.6 dB, which is comparable to a quiet office or a subdued conversation. While you can hear it operating, it’s more of a gentle hum that fades into the background after a while.
Switching to the lowest setting, the noise level drops noticeably to 31.6 dB. This is barely noticeable unless you’re in a completely silent room. I often left it running overnight in the bedroom, and it didn’t disturb my sleep at all. In fact, the subtle white noise was rather soothing. If you’re sensitive to sounds, you’ll likely appreciate how unobtrusive this purifier is on its lower settings.
Overall, the LEVOIT LV-H128 effectively balances performance with quiet operation. Whether you’re working, relaxing, or sleeping, it does its job without drawing attention to itself through loud or distracting noises.
Smart Features and IoT Integration
In today’s connected world, many appliances come loaded with smart features and IoT capabilities. However, the LEVOIT Air Purifier LV-H128 takes a more straightforward approach. This model doesn’t include any smart features or IoT integration. It doesn’t have mobile app control, compatibility with voice assistants like Alexa or Google Assistant, or Wi-Fi connectivity.
Initially, I thought I might miss these features, as they add a layer of convenience in controlling and monitoring devices remotely. However, I found that the simplicity of the LV-H128 was actually quite refreshing. The touch controls are intuitive and easy to navigate, allowing me to adjust settings directly on the device without any fuss. There’s something to be said for a gadget that performs its primary function effectively without the need for additional setup or potential technical glitches that sometimes accompany smart devices.
For those who prefer gadgets with the latest tech features, this might seem like a downside. However, if you value simplicity and reliability over extra bells and whistles, the LEVOIT LV-H128 fits the bill nicely. It focuses on delivering clean air efficiently, and sometimes, that’s exactly what’s needed.
Final Verdict
After thoroughly testing the LEVOIT Air Purifier LV-H128 in the MSP lab, I found it to be a reliable and efficient option for improving indoor air quality in medium-sized rooms up to 322 sq. ft. Its sleek design and lightweight build make it an unobtrusive addition to any space, and the touch controls are intuitive and user-friendly.
The three-stage filtration system—comprising a pre-filter, HEPA filter, and activated carbon filter—effectively reduces airborne pollutants. In our tests, the purifier showed significant improvements in air quality, especially when placed in the centre of the room. While it took longer to reduce PM2.5 levels when positioned in a corner, it still managed to lower harmful particles to safer levels within a reasonable timeframe.
Maintenance is straightforward, with easy filter replacement and readily available filters. Noise levels are pleasantly low, particularly on the lowest setting, making it suitable for use in bedrooms or quiet spaces. Although it lacks smart features and IoT integration, its simplicity can be a plus for those who prefer a no-frills approach.
At a price point of ₹10,326, it’s on the higher end of entry-level purifiers. While it offers solid performance, the value proposition may vary depending on individual needs and budget. Overall, the LEVOIT LV-H128 is a dependable air purifier that effectively enhances indoor air quality without unnecessary complexities.
