ignify, the global leader in lighting, has launched the Philips LightTheatre in India, a new smart lighting system aimed at transforming home entertainment into a fully immersive experience. The timing comes ahead of the festive season, when demand for home upgrades typically surges, and reflects the growing appetite for connected living solutions in Indian households.
The Philips LightTheatre uses HDMI Sync Box technology in combination with Philips gradient light bars, floor lamps and backlight strips to extend visuals beyond the television screen. By reading signals directly from any HDMI-connected device, the system analyses video and audio content in real time and projects synchronised, multi-colour lighting effects onto surrounding walls. This creates a "light theatre" effect designed to bring films, music and gaming to life.
According to C Arun Kumar, Head of Consumer Business at Signify, Greater India, the launch represents an important shift in how consumers interact with entertainment. He said that in India, digital entertainment is becoming a way of life and the quality of the experience is increasingly important. Philips LightTheatre, he added, turns everyday viewing into something cinematic, allowing people to not only watch but also feel every moment whether that is sports, music or films.
Key features of the Philips LightTheatre include HDMI-based real-time synchronisation, simple plug and play installation, multicolour gradient lighting segments, and control via the WiZ app, which offers preset modes such as Cinematic, Vibrant, Relaxation and Rhythmic. The system is expandable to work with any Philips Smart LED light that supports Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, allowing users to link multiple lights at once. It also integrates with Google Assistant, Alexa and Siri Shortcuts for voice control.
By positioning LightTheatre as part of its broader connected ecosystem, Signify is addressing the shift in consumer expectations towards immersive and personalised home entertainment. The system is aimed at households seeking to go beyond high-definition screens and surround sound by adding lighting as a third dimension to the living room experience.
