Hulu is now available in India through the Disney+ Hotstar app. The popular American streaming service is already listed on the app under the Popular Channels section. Notably, the popular streaming service was US-exclusive prior to this and is going international with the India launch. This will also help Disney+ Hotstar gain a footing in the country after it lost the rights to broadcast IPL 2023 and HBO shows, to Viacom 18’s JioCinema owned by Reliance Industries. Here’s all you need to know about the latest development.
Hulu Launched in India Through Disney+ Hotstar

Streaming fans have been looking for ways to watch Hulu content in India if multiple Reddit posts are anything to go by. Disney+ Hotstar has made it easier for such fans by listing the streaming service on its platform under Popular Channels. This is the first time that the US-exclusive streaming service has gone international.
Earlier this month, Disney CEO Bob Iger announced during Disney’s earning call that the company will launch a “one-app experience” to merge Hulu content in Disney+. He went on to state that the unified app experience will be launched by the end of 2023 and will be available to all customers who subscribe to both services. However, it seems that Christmas came early for Indian fans of the American TV and media streaming service provider.
In a major expansion outside of the US, Hulu is already listed on Disney+ Hotstar alongside popular channels like Star Plus, Star World, HotStar Special, ABC Studios, Quix, Showtime, and Tastemade, among others. Clicking on the Hulu channel reveals popular shows listed below.
- The Kardashians
- Single Drunk Female
- The Watchful Eye
- How I Met Your Father
- Koala Man
- AHS-NYC
- Family Guy
- Abbott Elementary
- The Resident
- 9-1-1
- The Simpsons
- Mike
- The D’Amelio Show
- Reservation Dogs
- Only Murders In The Building
- How I Met Your Mother
- Dopesick
- The Dropout
- Modern Family
- Malcolm In The Middle
And more. This move will also help Disney+ Hotstar as it lost 4.6 million subscribers in the quarter ending April 1. The subscriber depletion was caused by the removal of HBO content and IPL from the platform. While it still continues to be one of the top OTT providers with 52.9 million subscribers, the addition of Hulu might just help it clinch the top spot.
