Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is the second chapter in the planned Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy. Arriving almost four years after its previous instalment (FF7 Remake – 2020), Final Fantasy VII Rebirth picks up seamlessly where the previous narrative left off, following Cloud and his allies as they escape the confines of Midgar. This new chapter promises a significant shift in design, embracing expansive, open-ended environments for players to explore.

This shift directly tackles criticisms of the initial remake’s linearity, taking inspiration from well-regarded open-world titles such as The Witcher 3 and Horizon Zero Dawn. Players can anticipate an expansive world filled with opportunities for exploration, aligning with the fan-driven desire for increased freedom within the FFVII universe.

As reported by Game Informer, Rebirth is set to include a main story lasting around 40 hours. When factoring in additional side activities, Square Enix suggests that players can anticipate a broader experience ranging from 60 to 100 hours. Director Naoki Hamaguchi emphasizes that the game caters to various playstyles, accommodating those who prefer focusing solely on the main storyline, others who seek to explore all available content, and those who wish to strike a balance between the two extremes.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth’s initial download size weighs in at a hefty 145.25 GB, according to PlayStation Game Size. Keep in mind, that this is for version 1.001.000, and updates before the launch could potentially increase the size further.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth arrives on PlayStation 5 on February 29 with pre-loading available from February 27.
