Gaming is one of the fastest-growing industries in India. Both mobile and PC gaming has gotten a lot of attention in recent years. Similar is the case with e-sports in India, for numerous organisations are competing with global teams in different games on the international stage. To understand the evolving behaviour of gamers in India and other aspects of gaming, MySmartPrice conducted its annual survey.

The Gamer Insights 2024 is one of the largest report to give a peek at the gaming industry, as it’s based on responses from over 13,000 gamers across the country. Let’s study more about the gaming industry in India without any further ado.

How Much Time Do Gamers Spend Each Day in Gaming?

Who doesn’t love gaming for a long time? This is exactly what the MSP Gaming Report indicates. In our survey, over 55 percent of respondents said they like playing smartphone games for more than 30 minutes. Around 35 percent of them play between 30 to 90 minutes daily whereas 18 percent of them cross 3 hours while playing. Around 61.6 percent of respondents said that they play games multiple times each day whereas 19.8 percent of respondents play games at least once a day.

Similarly for laptops, around 28 per cent of respondents said they like playing games on a laptop each day for between 30 to 90 minutes. Around 15 percent of respondents said they play games on a laptop for over 3 hours each day. A maximum of 31.3 percent respondents said they like playing laptop games multiple times each day whereas 24.1 percent said they play games sometime a week.

Top Brands for Gaming in India

Samsung has replaced Realme to become the most preferred choice of users for smartphone gaming in 2024. Around 16 percent of respondents chose Samsung over rivals. Realme achieved the second spot with 15.3 percent of respondents owning its offerings. This is interesting to see how close the call is, among both the brands.

Coming to the laptop side, HP remains the most preferred brand by gamers in 2024 whereas ASUS remains second. Around 15.3 percent of respondents chose HP whereas 13.9 percent of them selected ASUS as their gaming laptop. It’s not surprising as HP’s Omen and ASUS ROG are the two most popular gaming laptop series in India.

The laptop processor debate is another close call that we witnessed in the MSP Gaming Study 2024. Around 47.4 percent of respondents said they use an Intel-powered laptop, whereas 45.3 percent chose an AMD-powered laptop as their gaming device.

When and Where Do Gamers Like Playing Games?

While most of the streamers come live at night on YouTube or any other streaming app, other gamers have different time preferences. According to MSP Gamer Insights 2024, maximum gamers (around 33.7 percent) play games in the afternoon, whereas 32.7 percent of gamers like to play during the evening time. The rest of the gamers like to play either before sleeping or just after waking up.

Unsurprisingly, users prefer playing games in their homes for the best comfortable experience. Of course, it wouldn’t be a good idea to shout “revive, revive” at someone else’s house (no pun intended). The second most preferred place to play games is school or college.

Which is the Most Popular Gaming Platform?

Back in 2018, when the e-sports revolution just started, there was only YouTube which used to host all the streamers. However, in recent years, many new platforms such as Rooter and Loco have burst onto the scene to host such gamers. As per MSP Gamer Insights 2024, gamers still like to watch gaming content on YouTube over any other app. Compared to the 75.1 percent of the previous year, the numbers have gone up to 81.7 percent this year. The rest 20 percent of gamers watch content on Rooter, Loco, and Facebook.

Which is the Best Smartphone Game?

Similar to the previous year, Battle Royale games like Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) and Free Fire are top of the charts. 33.5 percent of respondents said they prefer playing BGMI regularly, followed by 16.5 percent for racing games like Asphalt and 14 percent for arcade games like Ludo.

Which is the Best Laptop Game?

Games on PC / Laptop are not limited to any one genre. They are spread across various categories. Going by the responses, Call of Duty is still the most preferred game among PC gamers. Over 34.1 percent of gamers like playing it regularly, whereas 33.5 percent of gamers like playing Need for Speed. Valorant is another popular game however, it ranked second lowest with just 23.9 percent of gamers preferring it.

The MSP Gamer Insights 2024 reveals key trends in Indian gamers’ behaviour and preferences across smartphones and laptops. The report shows that games like BGMI and Call of Duty still dominate the Indian gaming market and are here to stay. Do you see any other game coming out on top in 2024?
