Ubisoft’s highly anticipated arena shooter, XDefiant, has gone live now on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC via Ubisoft Connect. The free-to-play multiplayer FPS title has launched with Preseason and takes inspiration from different Ubisoft games.
XDefiant Launched: Everything to Note
The game hits the shelves with five modes, five unique factions, 14 maps, and 24 weapons with 44 attachments.
Game Modes
XDefiant’s game modes fall into two categories: Arena and Linear. Arena modes involve players battling across the entire map, including Occupy, Domination, and HotShot. In contrast, Linear modes divide teams into attackers and defenders, who compete over progressive objectives. The Linear modes are Escort and Zone Control.
- Occupy: Control a moving zone to earn points while shutting out the opposing team.
- Domination: Capture and hold three fixed zones to continuously earn points.
- HotShot: Eliminate opponents and collect bounties to score points; the player with the most gains special abilities but is marked on the map.
- Escort: The attacking team escorts a package along a path by standing near it, aiming to reach checkpoints before time runs out.
- Zone Control: The attacking team aims to capture five zones progressively, while defenders try to prevent them from doing so.
Factions & Abilities
- Cleaners (Aggressive): faction specialising in incendiary tactics, ideal for pushing objectives and controlling areas. (Good for Escort & Domination)
- Echelon (Stealth): Movin unseen & reveal enemies’ positions with an Intel Suit or Digital Ghillie Suit. (Good for HotShot)
- Phantoms (Defense): Strong defensive faction with bonus health and abilities to block incoming damage, crucial for holding positions and objectives. (Good for Occupy, Domination, Zone Control)
- Libertad (Support): Focused on healing teammates, offering passive health regeneration and active healing abilities. (Good for all modes)
- DedSec (Tech): Tech-savvy hackers disrupting enemy gadgets and abilities, capable of causing chaos and disabling opponent’s tech. (Good for countering opponent pushes).
Loadouts
Players can choose from preset load-outs or customize their own from six primary weapon types. Each loadout includes a primary weapon, a secondary weapon, and one device. There are 44 attachment options across six categories influencing the weapon’s stats. Learn more about the Game modes, Factions and Loadout, from here.

Sadly, the game experienced server issues on launch day, likely due to a high player base. Many players met with matchmaking issues which Ubisoft is currently trying to fix it. Issues like these are quite common whenever large multiplayer games launch. However, it would not take much time before everything goes back on track.
Update: We are all focused on the matchmaking issue and are continuously investigating. We will continue to provide updates as possible.
