Just in time for the Christmas season, Santa Monica Studio has surprised God of War fans with a pleasant surprise in the form of a free DLC. Here is everything you need to know.

The official blog post reveals God of War Ragnarok: Valhalla is an epilogue to the events of the God of War Ragnarok. The players will go on a new journey featuring Kratos and Mimir described as, “Set after the decisive battle against Odin and Atreus’ departure, Kratos has seen a path for himself that he never thought possible before. Brought to the mysterious shores of Valhalla accompanied only by Mimir, Kratos will enter its unknown depths to overcome trials within himself and face echoes of his past.”

The unique thing about the DLC pack is that its gameplay is packed with roguelike elements. It means whenever Kratos dies in his journey, he will reawaken outside the gates of Valhalla to take upon the challenges again. Each attempt will see players come across a new combination of enemies and “some surprises along the way”.

Players will get to earn more resources with each attempt which can be used for permanent upgrades. The post adds these upgrades will affect not only Kratos but also Valhalla itself. The game will also have an adaptability aspect where players will have to make choices regarding what kind of Glyphs, Perks, Runic Attacks, etc. to wield. This is something God of War players are already familiar with.

God of War Ragnarok: Valhalla DLC will have a total of five difficulty levels. The highest difficulty level is called Show Me Mastry. The higher the difficulty level chosen, the better the rewards will be. Gamers will have the flexibility to switch among these difficulty levels between attempts.

If you are someone who is still in the middle of playing God of War: Ragnarok, the good news you do not need to finish the main storyline or need specific upgrades to play the DLC. However, you will get spoilers while playing DLC if you have not completed the story yet.

God of War Ragnarok: Valhalla DLC will be free to download and play on both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. It will launch on December 12 via the PlayStation Store. The only requirement is that you should have the God of War: Ragnarok base game in your library.
