  • Google I/O 2024’s dates are now official.
  • The company asked users to solve a puzzle before revealing the date.

Google has announced the date of its annual developer conference—I/O 2024. The Mountain View giant posted a tricky Break the Loop puzzle for its community members and fans to solve and figure out the date. Soon after, the company announced that I/O would kick off on May 14, exactly two months from now.

Apart from the date, Google has also revealed what to expect from the event, and here’s what you need to know.

Google I/O 2024: What to Expect?

We can expect the Google I/O 2024 to kick off with a keynote by CEO Sundar Pichai on May 14. The event will then transition to developer-focused and technical sessions available online.

Google is expected to reveal the budget-friendly Pixel 8a smartphone at the event and give a preview of Android 15. Of course, given the emphasis on generative artificial intelligence (GenAI), we expect this will be a key focus point in the new products announced at the upcoming Google I/O 2024.

Google Pixel 8a

Last year, the brand launched the Pixel 7a and much-anticipated Pixel Fold at the I/O 2023. While many Pixel 8A rumours are pointing toward the I/O 2024 launch, there’s not enough information about the Pixel Fold 2 except for the most recent display size leak.

Pixel 8a Rumoured Specifications

  • 8GB RAM, 128 / 256GB storage
  • Tensor G3
  • Android 14
  • Dual rear cameras
  • 27W wired fast charging

Android 15 Preview

Google will officially showcase the Android 15, WearOS, and other Google services like Gmail, Photos, etc. The company has already kickstarted the Android 15 Developer Preview with new privacy, security, and camera controls. We can expect the company to announce the rollout timeline of the Android 15 beta version at the upcoming event.

Google Gemini Developments

Google has also revealed that the event will deep-dive into its Gemini AI model for developers. We can expect more AI-related announcements at the event. According to the official blog, I/O 2024 will help developers learn more about scaling their apps “from idea to production AI applications faster.

The Break the Loop puzzle also hinted at Android XR-related developments. For the uninitiated, Android XR stands for Extended Reality. It is Google’s take on Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR), Mixed Reality (MR), and everything related.
