GTA is a series of action-adventure games, which are adored by everyone across the globe. The Grand Theft Auto games are set in fictional locales styled after real-life cities, spanning the years from the early 1960s to the 2010s. The original game’s map included three cities: Liberty City (based on New York City), San Andreas (based on San Francisco), and Vice City (based on Miami), but succeeding titles traditionally focus on a single setting, generally one of the original three, albeit redeveloped and greatly expanded.

GTA games not only have exciting missions but lets their players explore the vast open world that the game has included. Aside from the main tasks, players can participate in a variety of side missions. The fifth edition in the GTA series is now the most famous and successful title. The game was launched in 2013 and is universally recognized as one of the best video games of all time. GTA 5 has the largest map in the series, allowing players to skydive, play tennis, hunt, and do a variety of other activities.

Rockstar Games also released a few GTA titles on the mobile gaming platform too. There are currently 17 games in the GTA series across all platforms, with only five of them playable on mobile devices. They take up a lot of space and are only compatible with high-end smartphones.

1. Grand Theft Auto III

Grand Theft Auto III is the third main entry in the GTA series after 1999’s GTA 2. The story of the game follows a silent protagonist named Claude who seeks revenge on his girlfriend after being betrayed and left for dead during a robbery. The protagonist of the story becomes involved with dangerous gangs, providing us with a wonderful story to explore in the game.

Grand Theft Auto III received generally favourable reviews when it was released for mobile devices in December 2011. Based on 26 reviews, Metacritic assessed an average score of 80 out of 100. The improved visuals were well received by reviewers, but the touchscreen controls were criticised. As you may be aware, Rockstar Games released GTA III in 2001, so don’t compare its graphics to other recent mobile games such as COD Mobile.

2. Grand Theft Auto: Vice City

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City is one of the classic vintage games which was adored by everyone during the early 2000s. Vice City is the fourth main entry in the GTA series, following 2001’s Grand Theft Auto III. The game takes place within a fictional city named Vice City (based on Miami). The story follows the protagonist, Tommy Vercetti who rises as a gangster after being released from prison and becoming caught up in an ambushed drug deal. While looking for those responsible, he gradually builds a criminal empire by seizing control of other criminal organisations in the city.

The graphics in Vice City for mobile are almost identical to those in the PC version, which is fantastic. You’ll be performing the same operations and completing the entire Vice City story on your mobile device.

3. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas

Following Vice City, GTA San Andreas was the game that elevated the Grand Theft Auto series to new heights. This game helped Rockstar Games become one of the most successful gaming companies. It was almost in every PC and everyone in their 20s had played it. San Andreas introduced a lot of new and unique features like swimming, shopping, and even eating to gain health. You can still find new mods surrounding this game to date.

The game takes place in an open-world setting where players can freely explore and socialise with. The plot revolves around Carl “CJ” Johnson, a former gangster who comes home after his mother’s murder and is pulled back into his former gang and a life of violence while butting heads with corrupt officials and mighty criminals.

4. Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories

If you’ve played Grand Theft Auto 3, you won’t want to miss GTA: Liberty City Stories, the game’s prequel. In October 2005, Liberty City Stories was released exclusively for the Playstation. However, the game was released in 2015 and 2016 on iOS and Android, respectively. The game is the series’ first 3D title to be launched for mobile devices.

The game is set in 1998, in Liberty City, a fictional city based on New York. The single-player story, set in 1998, follows mobster Toni Cipriani, a character initially introduced in Grand Theft Auto III, as he attempts to rise through the ranks of the Leone mafia family while gradually becoming engaged in a political battle among the city’s multiple Mafia groups.

5. Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars

Chinatown Wars is an action-adventure game that was released for the Nintendo DS & Playstation Portable in 2009. The following year, in 2010, GTA: Chinatown Wars was released for the iOS platform, followed by Android and Fire OS in 2014. It is the 13th game in the Grand Theft Auto series, a sequel to Grand Theft Auto IV, and the first one to be launched for mobile devices since Vice City Stories in 2006.

In GTA Chinatown Wars, you play as young Triad Huang Lee, who discovers the facts about his father’s demise while messing around with criminals. In contrast to other GTA games, Chinatown Wars employs a fully moveable camera from the top. It is also one of the best open-world games that let you do whatever you want, which implies you’ll be doing a lot of bad things to make money on the roads.
