Infinix Note 40 Pro 5G Review: A Feature-Packed Phone with a Magnetic Twist

The Infinix Note 40 Pro, at first glance, seems like any other smartphone stepping into the market. However, it packs something that no other Android phone does as of now. The phone comes with a magnetic charging solution, similar to that of Apple’s MagSafe.

The phone also comes with a curved AMOLED display, a 108-megapixel camera, and a premium look and feel, all at a starting price of Rs 21,999. With such a competitive market brewing in this segment, with the likes of Vivo T3, Nothing Phone 2(a), and more breathing down the necks of the Note 40 Pro, can it live up to the hype or just be a bystander? The Note 40 Pro goes on sale today at noon (April 12) exclusively on Flipkart. The display is one of the key highlights of this device. It flaunts a beautiful curved AMOLED panel, which produces deep blacks, vivid visuals, and sharp details. Plus, the almost bezel-less design of the device gives a truly immersive experience when watching content on it.

We have watched hours of content on YouTube, and the experience has been fantastic. While the display is bright enough in most conditions, the peak brightness of 1300 nits is a bummer under direct sunlight. Unlike other smartphones with a curved display, the Note 40 Pro is not able to tackle accidental touches well.

The stereo speaker setup on the Note 40 Pro is powered by JBL.The audio output gets loud enough with clear sound. However, it lacks a bit of bass which some may find upsetting.

The Note 40 Pro is surely a conversation starter because of its design approach. The look and feel of the device are very premium and its lightweight nature helps in carrying it around easily. The weight distribution is also very neatly done, despite having a huge camera module.

The vegan leather finish at the back and the gold frames help achieve this further. The build quality of the phone is also top-notch, so, you need not worry much during accidental drops. Now, let’s discuss the main highlight of the Infinix Note 40 Pro. It supports wireless magnetic charging, which is similar to Apple’s MagSafe charging. This is something new in the Android market, as we have seen wireless charging in the past, but no one has opted for magnetic charging yet.

The magnetic wireless charger solves the issue that standard wireless chargers usually face — and that’s precise placements.

The Note 40 Pro supports up to 20W magnetic wireless charging. If you have opted for the Magkit, the included MagPower bank cannot fully charge your device in a single go as it’s only 3000mAh, but it’s more than enough to juice up the phone during emergencies. Despite slapping on the MagPower charger at the back, the phone did not feel unwieldy to carry around.

When it comes to wired charging capabilities, the 45W adapter charges the phone from 15% to 100% in about an hour, so there are no complaints.

Moreover, Infinix has also introduced a Cheetah X1 chip, which is used to manage the power on the device. It also packs the Bypass Charging 2.0, which minimises heat buildup and protects battery life during heavy usage, such as gaming or watching videos.

Surprisingly, all these are not just gimmicky features. During our testing period, we did not encounter any heating issues.

In terms of battery life on the device, the Note 40 Pro is a dependable phone. We could easily churn out seven hours of screen time with moderate usage.

The Note 40 Pro draws power from the MediaTek Dimensity 7020 chipset. This might not be the fastest chipset in the market, but it’s able to handle daily tasks and more with ease.

We haven’t experienced any lags or stutter while using the Note 40 Pro as our primary device. Even though it’s not meant for gaming, we played titles like BGMI and Asphalt 9, and it performed well under high graphic settings.

The phone’s RAM management is equally good. It does not kill background apps unnecessarily and opens up older apps from where it was left without any issues.

The Note 40 Pro runs on XOS 14, which is based on Android 14 out of the box. Infinix promises two years of Android updates and three years of security updates, which is decent if not very good.

The phone does not come with any bloatware apps, except for Infinix apps such as XArena, XClub, and more. These can be uninstalled if not needed.

Regarding optics, the 108-megapixel OIS primary camera on the Note 40 Pro delivers satisfactory results in daylight, with crisp details and accurate colours. The photos look fairly natural because the post-processing does not enhance the brightness or saturation. We prefer this approach as it leaves more room for editing. While the Note 40 Pro handles every situation well, it can sometimes struggle with balancing the exposure of the sky.

The Note 40 Pro captures great images in low-light conditions. Especially, when you shoot monuments or landscapes at night, it delivers fantastic results with good details and beautiful colours without introducing any noise — this was a bit of a surprise for us.

The 32-megapixel selfie camera on the front is excellent as well. The details in selfies are good, and the skin tone is maintained perfectly. We even tried taking a selfie in a dim light situation, and even then, the images were acceptable, albeit with a bit of noise. So, considering its price, we don’t have any major complaints about the camera capabilities.

So, should you buy the Infinix Note 40 Pro at Rs 19,999? The short answer is “YES”.”
