Apple is gearing up for its “Let Loose” spring event on May 7. The event is expected to focus on new iPads but there has been a surprising rumour. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has reported that the upcoming iPad Pro might leapfrog the M3 chip and instead be powered by the next-generation M4 chip.

Upcoming iPad Pro to Boast M4 Chip and Advanced Neural Engine

Apple’s new M4 chip is expected to debut on Macs later this year. But according to Gurman’s report, there’s “a strong possibility the upcoming tablets from Apple will arrive with an M4 chip coupled with a new neural engine, making it Apple’s “first truly AI-powered device.”

If this happens, it could be a major update for the new iPad models. These AI features will eventually head to other products, which will be touted as AI devices.

However, there’s no word on which AI features will be ready for the event on May 7, as most of Apple’s AI magic is said to arrive with iOS 18 at WWDC in June.

Other iPad Updates

The last major update to the iPad lineup was in October 2022. As a result, the company seems to be planning some big changes this time. Apart from the M4 chip, there are rumours about features like a new OLED display with a repositioned FaceTime front camera.

Apple is also expected to unveil a new, refreshed Apple Pencil at its upcoming event. Gurman has stated that the new Pencil could be more advanced and feature haptic feedback for the first time. There could be a new redesigned Magic Keyboard too.

We are a few days away from Apple’s Spring event and hence, it would make sense to wait and see what Apple plans to do. We will keep you posted with the details, so, stay tuned.
