WhatsApp is now rolling out one of the commonly requested features. It is the ability to pin messages in a chat. This becomes important when you do not want to miss or forget an important message as you keep conversing with the other person or group members. The new feature rollout has begun but it may take some time before it arrives on everyone’s device. Here is everything you need to know about the pin feature and how to use it.

How to Pin Messages in WhatsApp?

WhatsApp is rolling out a new update that brings support for pinned messages. It is a feature that was first spotted in beta testing earlier this year. A wider rollout has begun but it is being done in a phased manner. This means some users will receive it earlier than others. All you need to do is to ensure you are using the latest WhatsApp version.

WhatsApp’s pinned messages feature lets anyone pin a message to the top of an individual or group chat. This can be done by pressing and holding the particular message and choosing Pin from the list of options. The app lets you choose a timer for the pinned message. It is set to 7 days by default but users can also opt for either 24 hours or 30 days. This is the duration after which a pinned message will get unpinned automatically.

A user can also unpin a message before the timer expires. The new pinned message feature works for all sorts of messages like texts, photos, videos, and even polls. One important thing to note is that only one message can be pinned at a time in one chat.

Additionally, group admins can choose to pin messages in a way that they are visible only to other admins. WhatsApp says pinned messages feature is available for Android, iOS, desktop, and web users.

Last week, WhatsApp released a new feature that allows users to send View Once audio messages. These audio messages can only be listed once and they disappear thereafter. This new feature is beneficial for sharing sensitive information as long as the recipient does not record your message. It is an extension of the View Once photos and videos feature available on the app for the last few months.

WhatsApp also received a new privacy feature called Secret Code earlier this month. It lets users hide locked chats from the main chat list. They can access these hidden chats by entering the secret code in the search bar.
